If you had a galvanic cell with the following:
  • Anode: Zn(s)
  • Analyte: Zn(NO3)2(aq)
  • Cathode: Fe(s)
  • Cathylate: Fe(NO3)3(aq)

Which of the following reduction reactions occurs?:
  1. Fe3+ + e- -> Fe2+ only
  2. Fe3+ + e- -> Fe2+ followed by Fe2+ + 2e- -> Fe(s)

wouldn't it be Fe3++3e+-->Fe(s)?
As eventually Fe3+ will become Fe, why separate it?

If that's the case, would I just add the voltages to get the voltage of that reaction?
