I formatted it last night, and the problem still persists.
No worries. I called the warranty guys and they will call me regarding fixing it. The Cd/dvd drive does sound a bit sickly at times, so i think it is a hardware thing. thank god I bought a 2-year extended warranty when i purchased the laptop (exactly 2years and 10 days ago lol. but i have a 3 year warranty in total, because there was an initial 1 year manufacturer warranty).
Regardless, thank you everyone for all your assistance. It is good to have all the suggestions in order to rule out other potential problems.
I tried it then, but it still isn't detecting anything.Sounds like you'll have to run it in compatibility mode.
