In before 'wow kills your social life'

I've kind have given up computer games since beginning of year 12, and my dad has said if I get over 90 (which is highly likely at this stage) he'd buy me a new laptop to use at uni. So, in light of this, I've decided to buy a gaming laptop so I can immerse myself in the anti-social world of gaming again. So, what are the choices?

I've only really got my eyes on one thing atm, Dell XPS, 17" monitor one. Cap of what I can spend is around $3k, any suggestions?

Oh nah I won't be using a touchpad, I'll have a set up at home for games, gaming mouse, speakers, etc. Overrated in what way? I'm not really at liberty to get a desktop, any suggestions?

Depends on if ur after any battery life or not.
If you'll take to uni, then u should bring ur power-brick, since gaming lappy's chew up power quickly.
Yeah that xps is a monster. Check out the asus gaming ones too. Plus theres alienware ;)

What kind of gaming are u after?
I've got an asus m51va, 2.53ghz dual core, 4gb ram, 512mb radeon hd graphics, i can run crysis on low with no lag at all, unreal tournament 3 on max with a bit lag, but looks beautiful.
I can easily run any of the latest games on the lowest settings and run with no lag at all, i'd rather one with better processor and graphics, but i got this one for an extremely extremely good price.

Since u mentioned that xps behemoth, then u must be after max settings gaming.
In that case, be prepared to carry around ur charger wherever u go, and prices will be pretty high.

Good way to work out the muscles lugging around the laptop all day.

lol, yes true, eg i only take mine on mondays, but i already got muscles :p

And Garygaz, why not get some cheap laptop for uni work and a desktop for games? Get an asus eeepc for ur uni work, theyre about 600$ max.
As for ur desktop, depending on how much u know about computers, build one urself, buy parts separately, and u get get an extreme game machine for under $2000, serioiusly. Its surprising how much cheaper it is if u get all the parts separetely and assemble urself.
If ur not that 1337, then buy a gaming desktop, say, from dell, get a low end xps with quad core, whatever graphics and ram, for probably under $3000. If u want more ram or graphics, buy it separately and stick it in urself.
I mentioned low end because even those are extremely good, high end will cost over $3000

hmm cheers for the advice. I guess I'll be playing WoW and most of the new FPSs that come out in the near future, so like the new COD and COD6 when it comes out in 2009. Though that idea of getting a cheap laptop and a desktop wasn't a bad idea, I may look into that, thanks :)

Its pretty distracting for me, having uni work on the same computer as all my games. So i guess it'll be easier for u to study then.
