I have some spare coolant which I can change. The last time it has been serviced is feburary. Do you think I can just do without? I keep reminding myself that on the offchance if something goes wrong, I'll regret it if I don't get it serviced.
How many kms you done since then? (This is whats most important.... time means nothing, oil etc lasts for an eternity when not in use!)

Also what you need to change isnt really generic, look at your cars owners manual and in the service section you will see recommended intervals for coolant, tansmission etc changes. Thats what you should go off...provided your mechanic has also gone off that as well, if he hasnt then check receipts from when you have had it serviced and compare to the recommended intervals. These intervals are recommended based on the manufacterers tests and things like that on the engine so its the most reliable.... not what some backyard mechanic thinks

Realisitically though you said your travelling 1000km, its not a massive distance, Ive driven 500km in a single day befre when a service was overdue for my old bomb. Thing is long trips arent harsh on the engine, 70% of wear occurs on start up... while your driving along no matter what the distance oil is running through the car lubricating eveything so their is less wear, even more so if your cruising down a highway at a constant speed. Its short trips of city traffic that kill engines quickest... cold start ups cause the most damage to your car as oil takes up to 3mins+ to reach every component of the engine (One reason why people who show off and floor it straight after start up are spastics)!
