hey, can anyone give me an example of how Australia contributed to international aid?

im guessing we are gonna need to know:

• aid
• what is aid
• government and NGO's
• tied and untied aid
• example of aid

im guessing the extended response will prob be on this or Aus as a global citizen..

Aid, is exactly that, aid to other countries in need that cant support themselves due to natural disaster, war etc.

Government- the Gvnt. sending over ADF members to assist in rebiulding and sending trained medical people.

NGO-red cross, UNICEF, all those folks.

Tied-Give them money, but they have to repay it or buy certain things from us.

Untied- do whatever they want with it, the president can buy himself a new car if he likes.

Example- Well, were in a good time for this, The recent Samoan tsunami, within 24 hours Aust. had commited trained medical personnel and a number of army members to assist in rebiulding.

Australia also gave 4 billion dollers ( i guess its somewhere there) for aid last year!!!

Heresa fun fact- Australia gives 25% of its foreign aid to Papau New Guniea.
And AusAid.com says we gave them $414.3 million so far this year

Sources of aid


Government aid is in the form of loans or grants. The official form is called ODA (overseas development aid) which can be given as bilateral (given to one country) or multilateral (funds are transferred through an org or agency eg) UN )

loans - transferred funds that have to be paid back in interest over time
grant - outright transfer payment

Non government aid came come from NGO's like care australia.

Most ODA is administered through AusAID


I think we've given over 300 billion in aid to PNG o___o god think of all the tvs you could've bought with that

while $4b sounds a lot... several other countries are doing much better than AUS in regards to providing international money for aid... E.g. Sweden has something like 0.8% of its GNP to aid while Australia has something like 0.25% from 2004

- use that as a point if you are ever asked about the Adv's / Disadv's of Aid.
