getting a dog during the hsc (1 Viewer)

hi, first time post, this year i'm doing my hsc and so things are heating up. incidently, my parents have finally agreed to get me a dog. now the child in me is pneumatically running on rooftops kicking over tiles, much to my neighbour's dismay. but i do have feelings of scaredness. my dog-enriched future self would be typing away in the room (sans-dog-in-room), trying to use the highest (highest!) language i can to do english well. Along comes Scruffles (haven't settled on a name) and my lexis is reduced to high pitched eeks and uncoherent baby talk mumblings of said dog's name. did having a dog ever effect you guys in the hsc?

I know its hard to believe, but it is actually possible to have a life during the HSC, even if your aiming for a super high ATAR. Having a good balance of study and stuff unrelated to schoolwork during the year is extremely beneficial - way more beneficial then putting your whole life on hold completely.

I have 4 dogs, they're good for your downtime during study. Although they can be a bit of a distraction but when you have time to play with them its really relaxing and they really brighten your mood on a bad day

don't worry, owning a dog won't destroy your chances of getting a decent atar. if anything, it'll force you to take much needed breaks and exercise

walking and training should take at least 30 minutes per day which isn't really that much time at all (if you need any help with the latter please feel free to pm me, i'd be more than happy to help )

Use the dog as a break or an outlet for study, like take it out for a walk when you want a study break...

To be honest, you only need to spend a small portion of time on studying during HSC.

^I had one of those when I was younger, real dog trumps it.

My doggie can really brighten my day, they're wonderful companions

of course you can have a dog

and if it becomes annoying (like through barking a lot etc.), go to a library

WEll my 4 year old dog always came into my room and would lie under my table as i studied away for the hsc. He only distracted me if he wanted to go out for a pee which i would gladly abide if only just to relax my eyes. However, i probably only got the chance to walk him once or twice during the weeeks leading up to hsc and we both got respectively fat.

If you want to get a puppy, i would suggest get it after hsc (as a sort of reward) bcoz they can be heaps of work esp if ur parents arent willing to take care of them while u work. Also u need to really socialise them so you would have to pay them much more attention that a more matured dog. Also once hsc is finished, you'll find urself with so much time to spare that i think u'll be glad to have a new puppy to take care of....long walks around the park/neighborhood, beach...etcetc

So yeah, it's really up to u but personally i would wait til hsc is over to get a puppy
