I have no doubt as to the fact that there are "intelligent and opinionated" girls in the world and even on this forum. The issue at hand however is that girls (and boys for that matter) at my age do not speak about their true interests in public very often because of the social pressure. At high school it is often the case that the people that raise personal opinions are laughed at, because it is considered "not cool" to be smart. That, in my opinon, does make it hard to find those type of people.
That's cos it can get quite dull and long and people can easily get so annoyed at you that ull lose watever friends u had..
are you that insecure that you are possibly bright and that u really need another person to reinforce that ure opinion is correct?
cos on this subject i am pretty sure ure wrong.. like sale of the century lose 5 pts kinda wrong..

maybe its the girls who you are hanging out with that is the issue..they dont have opinions.. or you haven't got pass into the "lets talk about serious topic" zone

You say that "they don't want me". How do you know that I do not already have an "intelligent and opinionated" girlfriend? This thread is not about me getting an "intelligent and opinionated" girlfriend, but about the issue I raised, which does not have anything to do with me personally, apart my personal observation that "they are hard to find"..
yeah but people who have them don't usually bring that to light.. or other guys know.. and then we try to steal it from them.. its a dog-eat-dog world u know.
so using an educated guess Id have to go with.. you don't have an "intelligent and opinionated" girlfriend.

Try it anytime!! If she prefers you than I will be happy for her, because she will be happier with you which is what I want her to be. What you say only makes sense if you are talking about a selfish guy, which I guess you are then.

are you that insecure that you are possibly bright and that u really need another person to reinforce that ure opinion is correct?
This has again to do with selfishness, consider somebody posts something not only for his own personal benefit but rather also to allow other people to think about something they might not have considered before? No doubt I will benefit from hearing what other people think, expecially the girls, but mostly I still posted it so as to create an interesting discussion that would also benefit others. Plus I love discussing

the selfish argument is a classic..

there are very few things that cant use the selfish argument.. I do think ppl are all motivated by selfishness the only difference is whether it is overall beneficial or detrimental depends on what they do.

Like with you.. your need to find girls to talk 'deep and intelligent' is well part of ure wants and desires... I think that selfish.. why not indulge in a lil gossip/flirting for a girl's sake and forget that the world isnt all bunnies and sweet things.

again I just dun see how this is not a search for ppl to agree with you.

I still think you must not be in the right places.. cos there are plenty of girls I know that will talk to me n other males about economic policies.. and yet its not my thing.. cos it can get very dull when world leaders dun have a solution.. but u do?.. its not tat easy.

Have you ever considered that no one likes you ?

I know that if you're anything like you are online, and by the looks of things you are, I would hate to hang around you, namely because of your pole-up-the-ass syndrome.

I do believe that just because you are intelligent and have strong opinions - that doesnt mean that you are someone that - as someone previously talked about, have the inner depth to be able to "lie on the beach and talk about their lives with a guy". Of course that's in a sense metaphorically speaking - I dont know if this thread is simply about having the brains/asserting opinions because to me, that really is nothing. Just because you have the brains and sound opinionated, you may not be a deep person, you may not have wisdom.

Also, one can sound opinion and rant off lots of "opinions" that really constitute nothing but rubbish. Its whether the things you say truly have substance in them - is that the discussion here? whether the girl portrays herself as a girl with substance? does she have depth? does the knowledge/intelligence she conveys through being strongly-opinionated reflect wisdom, reflect perception?

To talk about your life - well anyone can do that - but I'm speculating from that example about how that friend's friend met a guy and they spent two weeks lying on the beach talking about their lives and how they have come to know each other more than hooking up straight away - I really hope that we are infering from this that it's about the ability to relate to one another with depth - that when you get to know someone, its not done in a shallow way...again if this thread wishes to stay within the main focus of er.."intellegence/opinions" then I'll refrain from going further...

Just because you're intelligence doesnt mean that you're someone with substance...some people "read too much"...they end up becoming almost two-faced...that other people dont even know who they are anymore - because instead of having their own genuine personal opinions, their opinions have assumed all those things they've read in books, or some "relationships advice" column in the newspaper/magazine..and they believe that they have knowledge, yes..you can make yourself sound knowledgeable, but that doesnt mean that you have TRUE knowledge, and that doesnt mean that you have real wisdom..and it doesnt mean that you are someone with substance, with inner depth..

I am not looking for girls with opinions in this thread. That was not the aim, but it would be a positive addition I am sure. I developped in my prior post what my intention was, did I not?

If I were to portray myself as a person interested in gossip I would be lying, which is omething I try my best to avoid at all times. Since I would not have much actual knowledge on the topic the discussion would not last very long anyway. If I were to depict myself as someone I am not I would be selfish because I would be misleading her in order to make her my girlfriend (if that is what you are saying). Plus not being interested in gossip would not be selfish because it would take her about 2 seconds to find someone else who would love to talk to her about gossip and topics alike.

I agree with you there. You say that it gets dull because world leaders don't have a solution, that I find intriguing. So do you just talk about what world leaders talk about? How about coming up with you own ideas?

The issue I raised is actually the exact same as for boys.

COULDA is spot on by the way. I am talking not about having just some opinion, but rather bee a knowledgeable, deep and understandin person, whatever the topic.

your last paragraph reeks too much of "Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation" --Oscar Wilde..............gettit?

of course not..
very few ppl have solutions to problems just by casually thinking about it..
u discuss whether another solution is better and in reality there is no 100% solution.. it a fine like to make sure ppl arent pissed off..

but hey im not paid to be frustrated by world politics..

I got a man with alcoholic liver problems in the morning.. I have to deal with.. IHMO this thread is still dumb

You are very very wrong. First of all not everybody can ever be happy. The most important thing for most developped countries (especially Eastern Europe) is to get away from a highly socialised society to become effective in competing with the emerging eastern economies. That is definitely not goin to make people happy in the short run. They will be very very unhappy because they will lose money and comfort, but in the long run, which they don't consider, they will be a lot better off. You actually touched on an extremly important social issue there.

When you were younger did your grandmother love giving you chocolate and spoiling you? Well mine did and still do, because they find short term enjoyment by doing it. But when it comes to voting for a politician that is going to take a bit of their comfort away (ex. working a yaar longer before retirement) away in order to ensure a better future for their grand-children they will immediately vote for a socialist government. That shows how shortsighted and selfish people actualy are.

I believe that the politician who is going to make positive change is going to be one of the most unpopular ones in the short run, look at Paul Keating for example. He saved Australia from the vicious circle most european nations are in at the moment by introducing the super-annuation fund, but was not popular at all, at least not from a general perspective. Only people who had the thoughtfulness and the ability to look at the effect his policies would have in the long run would have been supporters of his.

And you my friend have just demonstrated you are nothing but a boring bore.

Politics and the Eastern Bloc sociology aren't exactly flashpoints of interest when it comes do discussion.

From what I can judge you find them boring, but that is a personal opinion, isn't it? Can you point out some "flashpoints" of interests please, for my personal benefit this time.

Would the interests depend on the topic and parties of a discussion?

Obviously these people aren't worth it =)

Hahaha it is so amusing reading most of these posts..and then posting there and there and then entertaining myself with the reply posts that follow....

goodness seriously so many people here are a complete joke..

I think this is a clear demonstration of how you get a significant majority of society that wishes to talk about...refers to initial post.."Brad Pitt's six pack or pussycat dolls concert" blah blah blah...rather than being able to talk with depth..it doesnt mean that you spend 24/7 talking philosophically about life...its whether one, as a person, has substance or not...
and obviously as the majority of the posts by people here simply DO NOT get the picture (as they will definitely argue with me on this later on)...it shows how oblivious they are to their own misguided nature by the ills of society

Of course the interests would depend on the context of the matter, and yes it is an opinion, but also one which im sure resonates for a few more rather than less.

Look mate, its quite simple, there are girls out there who are opinionated and intelligent, and knowledgeable and know how to take care of themselves and know street smarts as well as book smarts.

You aren't going to find this out straight off the bat, they will most likely be thinking of the social paradigms, the expectations, the possibility of coming off as a tall poppy, and whatever else, or they could just be that its not exactly the best thing talking about strong opinions as it could possibly insult another person's opinions.

Now shut up and stop trying to act like you're some sort of smart fuck.

You are kidding right?

Want to discuss the transgressions between the metaphysics of tranversals or how bout we go into the finer details of the sound algorithms to various container formats within the world of lossless audio.

Your argument just sounds like "oh they don't agree with me, therefore theyre wrong" and sounds just as stupid as the conclusion that its somehow the girls' fault or societies' fault that opinionated girls are somehow hidden away from stollman.
