not sure how many people do either of these topics...

but what did people think about the gorbachev question for cold war?

only after the exam did i realise that gorbachev was a personality..so those who did both cold war and gorbachev, unlike me, will have a distinct advantage for the cold war essay.

so yes, how many people do both? and did u basically write the same essay for section 2 part b, and the cold war essay?

my teacher reckons there will be quite a bit of dissent over this question...

i do cold war, but for my personality i did trotsky

the cold war question for gorbachev was pretty easy, i talked about his three key policies perestroika, glasnost, democratizatsia, as well as reagans policies and then about disarmament agreements and geopolitical developments between both sides

the russian question was pretty tricky...

basically the advent of stalinism and his desire from control shifted foriegn policy aims and strategies from the promotion of world revolution to socialism in one country. So the main changes that Stalinism brought was a shift from ideologically based foreign policy to one dominated by nationalism and traditional tsarist fp - realist interpretation of international relations. Instead of pursuing ideological aims, he intended to secure both his country and his position within the state. So he made pacts and treaties with both capitalist and fascist countries, acting only to national self interest, rather than ideology.

i think thats about it...of course i expanded it for my essay, but its basically Stalin acting like a 'Red Tsar' - a communist dictator, yet pursuing policies which promoted self interest rather than pursuing world revolution and the ideology of marx.

i wrote about how the domestic policies were inseperable from the foriegn policy aims, so how collectivisation and industrialisation served to modernise the country internally, and thus he sought trade pacts with foreign nations to consolidate this modernisation

but i didn't go into great detail on the nature of the policies, just the effect on foriegn policy...thats right isn't it?
