So I have this english extension essay test coming up next term on gothic literature. However, I am very confused on what values are and how the composer explores it in the text and how they are challenged. Could you please help me with values on Poe's short story "The Fall of the House of Usher"?
What values are explored in this text and how they are challenged?

Gothic is not very hard.
Just examine how whoever 'transgresses' become the monster because he crosses moral boundaries at the time...and often, the monster is the opposite and very humane opposed to its creator.
You just need to examine the context of the composer's time and what is acceptable and what isn't.
