mmkay bosers...a question to yall..

how would I go about changing my hair colour from black to a light blonde.
I bought a blonde dye today and sniped abit of my hair out and tested that, and that turned a shite orangey brown.

So how, would you recommend I go from this:
(my myspace pic haha)

To this light blonde colour
(the guy in Elephant)

DIY?
Hairdresser?

cheers,

Bleach. Get it done at a hairdresser to avoid DIY disasters.

u have to get the colour correction treatment done professionally at a hair salon. believe me. i was in the same situation u are, in november. they have to bleach ur hair a few times to get out all the orange..coz if u leave some orange in your hair and just try to dye over it..the new shade of blonde will go brassy very quickly. try to go to a decent hair salon..but don't go to a really expensive one.. unless u have no problem spending around $200 on ur hair correction treatment, a new demi tint and an intensive treatment which u will need. if u do it at home. ur hair will turn out like straw.

Isnt that going to damage my hair no more than it would at home?
Do they have some sorta special formula they use or something.

Salon bleach also damages your hair. I suppose it doesn't matter as much since you don't want long silky tresses.

Yeah, it's a lot cheaper at home, but with the hairstyle you want, it's probably best you leave it to the professionals.

it is possible to go blonde by doing it yourself.. but not recommended

i know this asian girl who dyed her hair with blonde dye.. ended up orange.. then black regrowth came out.. so she dyes her hair about once every month to keep the regrowth from appearing.. and eventually.. the bottom bits which have been dyed again and again have gone blonde.. but they are also very brittle and dry and thinned and fly everywhere

and if you're doing it yourself.. dont try to keep the bleach in for more than it says.. because it will literally burn your hair off..

also, the more bleach = the more thin and poor quality your hair becomes.. and thin hairs tangle easily..

such a hassel

also.. is the first pic your natural colour? looks blue..

Yeah I know, you cant dye it for too long, otherwise it will fuck up your hair.

The first pic is not my natural colour, its black. (The blue shine is from my camera phone)

Its a brown/grey mousey chat colour which I dislike, hence the dyed hair.
Yeah thats true. Id just redye, or change colour from blonde, if I got too much regrowth.

Is your hair naturally black or dyed black?

If it's natural, you'll have a much easier time making it blonde, but if it's dyed black you'll either have to bleach your hair 3+ times and risk frying it, or go to a salon where they'll probably tell you they can't make it that colour in one go anyway (that's what happened to me).

If you wanna do it DIY, steer clear of box dyes, they WON'T give you platinum. You need to get the powder and peroxide you mix together. Since your hair's black you might wanna get 40vol if you're game, otherwise use 30vol.

I was going to write out instructions, but I'll just refer you to these tutorials

Bleaching your regrowth from mousy brown to blonde shouldn't be a problem, you'll probably only need to bleach it once each time. You should buy a good toner though.

I meant once he gets it to blonde, when he eventually gets regrowth he shouldn't have a problem dying it.

mine cost $200 because i have long hair, and was convinced to buy special shampoo and conditioner and a hair treatment mask to use at home, so my hair wouldn't be all dry from all the chemicals. i think just for the colour and correction treatment it was $160- it was an expensive place. u really should give your hair a moisturising treatment after having it bleached..its so dry afterwards. but yeah after a few weeks, my hair went back to its normal texture.
