therefore Q/360 X 2 X pie X R
15/360 X 2pie X 6400 = 1676 (nearest Km)


ii] 8 X 1.852 = 14.816km/hr
therefore 1676 / 18.8 = 113hours

iii] 10:00am Tue 12th Dec ( 113/24= 4ish and bout 7/10 days)
therefore = 4 days = 10:00am Sat 16th Dec
= 17 hours = 0300 or 3:00am Sunday 17th Dec

Taken from the 2002 past paper and is worth 4 marks. My answer is out by about $400 :(

(iv) Toby has a long-term plan. When he has finished Year 12, he wants to go
to university for 3 years and then take a back-packing trip around the
world.
By the end of 2001 Toby had saved $900 from his earnings, and sketched
out the following plan for saving money:


• In Year 9 (2001), I saved $900 (interest included).
• For each year while still at school, save 30%
more than I saved the previous year (interest included).
• At the end of Year 12 (2004), deposit total savings in
an account paying 4% per annum interest,
compounded annually.
• Add $2500 to the account at the end of each of the
three years while at university.

Toby’s goal is to have $15 000 in his account at the end of 2007.
Will he achieve this goal if he follows the above plan? Show all your
calculations to justify your answer.

any help is much appreciated.

Year 9 Savings= $900

Year 10 Savings= 900 + 30/100 X 900
= $1170

Year 11 Savings= 1170 + 30/100 X 1170
=$1521

Year 12 Savings= 1521 + 30/100 X 1521
= $1977.30

Therefore Total Savings at the end of year 12
=$900 + $1170 + $1521 + $1977.30
= $5568.30

Investment at End of 2005
= 5568.30 (1.04)^1 + 2500
=$8291.032

Investment at End of 2006
=8291.032 (1.04)^1 + 2500
=$11122.67328

Investment at End of 2007
=11122.67328 (1.04)^1 + 2500
=$14067.58 to the nearest cent

Thus Toby will not achieve his goal as he is short by $932.42

Agreeing with Q2C-ME<SCRIPT type=text/javascript> vbmenu_register("postmenu_3832965", true); </SCRIPT> but i would suggest that you don't always convert the rate (%) to a decimal. Always use a fraction as there is no possiblity you could get the answer wrong due to rounding.

Also the question was badly set out, you will not recieve a question like this in the HSC.

Use the formula I = 2RT to calculate the value of T when I = 8 and R = 9.7

u have clearly made it apparent to everybody that you have indeed no courage whatsover in facing me in person, you have all my detials including school, phone and address yet you still shiver at any prospect of potential confrontation.

19.4T = 8 [after substiution & multiplying the top and adding the bottom]
12.7

therefore 8X12.7= 101.96

101.6/19.4= 5.237113402

nd yea...it works i substituted the afore answer to confirm...umm nd just round it to whateva you want

i dont have a graphic calculator.. do you all have one? do you use it alot?

Yeah pretty sure you'll need one to work out standard deviation..

I don't use my often aside from intrest questions and standard deviations, and ofcourse to check algebra questions in equation solver

na.. just for questions like 66^x = 345 ( made up numbers) and ur asked to find x.

two questions

1) can any please explain the difference between present and future values.. i always ud the wrong formula

2) did u learn how to do median lines of a regresion

is any one else finishing exams with about an hour to spare...

I finish with about 30mins to spare.

Um..

1) Present- When they want a certain amount. You are trying to find (M) which is how much they will need to contribute to their account until they reach their goal. (eg. Bill wants to have $30 000 in 10years time in order to buy a new car, how much will he have to contribute to the account if the interest rate is 12%pa?)

Future- They invest a certain amount of money (M) every so often (could be every month they put $200 in a superannuation account) and how much it will be worth at the end of a certain amount of years (A)

Sorry if the examples aren't that good, i just made them up.

Yeh i finish with heaps to spare! not bragging or anything. But did anyone get that pink soft cover book with all the past papers in them? for 2005-07 i did all exams papers in 1.5 hrs and the 2004 in 1hr and 5 min. And marked them and none below 93. Just wondering if that book includes the whole test papers?? they go up to qestion 28.

ye 2005 was pretty easy

The internal phone numbers in a large business contain 7 digits.
i) How many possible telephone numbers are there?

The answer says the working is 10x10x10x10x10x10x10

I don't get it though.

its 10 because there are ten possible numbers for each number

eg ( any number from 0 - 9) in this case 0 counts as a number cause you can have it in a phone number , thats they trick to this question.

"any digit" means u must include 0 unless they specify otherwise

so overall

its ( any number from 0-10) in each of the seven spaces.

wow this is kind of hard to explain

Thank you. I get it now. I was thinking the phone has 1-9 = 9 digits total

so it's 1-9 + 0 = 10 :)

Thank you very much. I hate when simple things you know, you get wrong when asked a question on but you know it. It's logic. I use my phone everyday and i completely forgot about the damn zero. =_=

No, you don't need a graphics calculator for the exam. You can work out Standard Deviation and whatever else a graphics calculator gives you an "advantage" with on any of the other allowable calculators that the BOS has recommended. The BOS has a way of asking questions that work around the advantage of the graphics calculator to help you complete questions. There are pros and cons to both calculators. The only real advantage for graphics calculators is checking your answer...but you can usually do that on a regular calculator.

So, it doesnt matter if you dont have a graphics.
They're big, bulky and ugly anyways. :]
