Since hardness of water is the amount of Ca2+ and Mg2+ in it, when finding the hardness of it in ppm, do you add the amount of both Ca2+ and Mg2+ in ppm or do you only use the Ca2+?

bumpity bump, does anyone understand what I'm asking?
Do we use Ca2+ equivalent or do we also take into account the Mg2+ when measuring hardness of water in ppm

First you find the concentrations in mol/L for both Ca2+ and Mg2+, then you convert the result into milligrams of CaCO3 per litre.
