I'm considering doing it for selective entry... but I'm pretty sure its SUPER HARD.
So has anyone done it before and know the type of questions in it?
Hints and tips on how to do it are appreciated :)

What does it actually do? I mean by doing the exam what do you gain from it? Is this the UMAT because only year 12s can take the UMAT?

The ACER exam consists of:
Reading Comprehension
Written Expression
Mathematical Reasoning
Written Expression

And it basically is the key to you getting into the following selective schools:
Hornsby Girls HS,
North Sydney Girls HS,
James Ruse Agricultural HS,
Girraween HS,
Normanhurst BHS,
Sydney Technical HS,
Gosford HS,
Chatswood HS

It is easy.

If you're in year 6 and are great and maths and English, you'll go well.

Hey! I did the same and made it into Girra (But ended up going to NSB :p)
Anyway, It isn't "SUPER HARD" or an easy stroll. In my opinion, ACER tends to moderate the level of difficulty quite effectively.
For me, Math was relatively the easiest part of the exam. Questions ranged from simplistic calculations of mean to harder applications of logic.
English, if I remember correctly, invovled the general comprehension and essay/narrative writing.
In all honesty, I did little preperation for the exams. Do revise basic concepts and prepare a vague narrative. I'm sure you'll be fine!

The acer tests aren't that difficult. They use them at my school for scholarship testing (iirc), I did well in everything except english (but that's given since I'm p.bad at english). To do well all you need to do is to remain calm. ezpz :)

No worries! My selections were (in order):
1. Caringbah HS
2. Girraween HS
3. Fort Street
4. NSBHS
And ironically, I ended up going to my last priority :)
(Glad I've done so!)

Which schools are you applying for?

Well, I'm just trying out for fun (although I would be VERY HAPPY if I got in)

1. James Ruse
2. North Sydney Girls
3. Hornsby Girls
4. Fort Street

(Not really sure about the order...)

YES IT MAY SEEM IMPOSSIBLE!!
I just recently got accepted into a half-selective school & I'm satisfied if I stay at that school. So basically, it's just a gamble.
