How useless is a formal in year 10 and one more in year 12, like you're going to be with these people for 2 years, you're not even celebrating anything major and its not like you're going to get in with anyone. Thoughts?

Its a good excuse for a bit of fun, but I dont understand how some people spend hundreds of dollars on a dress..

a year 10 formal is a celebration of finishing 'junior high' whilst a year 12 is a finish of school in itself. It's a good tradition held in schools around the world.

Yeah, it's kind of useless. But you get to bond with your peers. However, some people do leave for another school in Year 11, so the chances are, you will be seeing some of your classmates off.

I thought it for back then when it was only compulsory to study up to year 10 and not year 12 like now? But the traditional hasn't died and now people use it to splurge and dresses, shoes and stuff.

Don't forget to bring your notes so that you can study while you attempt to awkwardly socialize with people.

I didn't even get a yr10 formal...stupid school canned it. I think it's a good way to celebrate finishing junior years, and some people will be leaving.

I loved the formal. Probably the only night I felt beautiful/ loved - lots of fun. I got spoiled rotten by my best friend :)
What would you rather formal or skydiving? That was the option for us.

Wait what. You had the option to either go skydiving, or year 10 formal? And you people chose the formal? How the fuck...
