hi guys was having a bit of problem with saving files onto my usb and i was wondering if anybody knows what the problem could be...when i come to uni and save files onto my usb drive all looks good, but then when i take it home and try to open up the files they're either corrupted, incompatible or completely deleted off the system. i thought it was cos i didn't copy the original file onto my usb properly so silly me i cut and paste the whole folder and now all my files are gone!

i've tried opening the files on another computers and it doesn't work either

the problem doesn't occur the other way around, i.e. when i try to open files at uni that i've saved onto my usb at home.

please please if anybody knows what the problem is your help would be really appreciated!

harvery norman is selling a toshiba usb (1GB) for $10
Officeworks is selling a 1GB imation USB for $12
Officeworks also stock their own brand of usb called "Techworks" - does fine too.

My USB used to corrput files too (it was one of those cheapo LG ones).

You might not be able to get a 8GB drive for $30 but NetPlus has a 4GB drive for $21 (http://www.netplus.com.au/products-...e / USB Key / Thumb Drives&pcode=MYUS4096-KIN) or a 8GB one for $42 (http://www.netplus.com.au/products-...e / USB Key / Thumb Drives&pcode=MYUS8192-KIN) these are good, cheap USB drives (I have the 2GB version).

I can't believe the price of USB drives now, I remember I bought a 4GB drive for $130 a few years back, now they are $21.

Are you suppose to do that when you want to take out the USB after using it?

......Oops I usually just pull it out.
If you have set the device for quick removal, then I don't think you have to.

i think you're supposed to eject manually yeah...i always used to pull it out until somebody pointed out i could do serious damage

anyhow back to the original story- turns out the "8gb usb" i bought off ebay was in fact 1gb or something ridiculous like that...apparently alot of sellers do that and get away with it and it's happened quite often on ebay

too bad i already sent the item back and i cant lodge a claim cos it's outside of the 28-day period.

moral of the story- don't buy usb's off ebay, not even the branded ones!
