hey guys! i really reallyyyyy need some help with this dot point > use available evidence to analyse, using a named example, how advances in technolog have changed scientific thinking about evolutionary relationships.

any ideas!!!

Think about trends. What did we use to do beforehand to make links between different species? Did we use their physical structure? Did we use how they lived?

Then link that to how we do it now. Hint: Think about the chart which compared a whole lot of different species, including humans to moths.

What about DNA hybridisation. Relationships between monkey, gorillas, chimpanzees and humans. It seems chimpanzees are more related to humans than anything else.

DNA sequencing was used to create the tree of life which has largely replaced the old five kingdom system of classification Tree of Life Web Project

or you could talk about the use of DNA sequencing and phylogeny analysis that has revealed that whales and dolphins are closely related to hippos Phylogeny of Ungulates

Not sure if its chimps, gorillas and humans, and whether the family they were in have changed. Meh. Anyway I did your homework for you.

DNA hybridisation has lead to a change in how gorillas, humans and chimpanzees are classified. Scientists have used DNA hybridisation to compare the percentage DNA similarity between humans, gorillas and chimpanzees. They found that humans were in fact more closesly related to gorillas than chimpanzees. Originally, scientists have placed humans and chimpanzees in the same family and gorillas in a seperate one based on morphological similarities. But now we know this is not true- gorillas and humans are more related, so scientists have change the classification to incorportate gorillas and humans in the same family, and chimps in a separate one.

Or you could talk about DNA sequencing which has created the Barcode of life database (BOLD) which we use to compare the DNA of animal species and thus elucidate there evolutionary relationships.
One of the more interesting relationships that DNA sequencing has clarified the (relatively) close relationship between whales and hippos
