I'm at the process of choosing a topic. I want to focus on either medieval or modern history. The actual topic isn't that hard to search for information, but whether there is enough information concerning historiographical issues and debates, critics etc. is another question.
I haven't got a topic yet. I search like this:
If its an event I'd search
- french revolution historical debates
- french revolution critics
- french revolution controversies
or if its a person I'd go
- Louis XVI Controversies etc.

Is this how I'm supposed to search for a topic because I ain't going far. :(

I recommend doing a thorough search on the internet, finding a topic, going to your local library and borrowing some books.

Be mindful that you have a word limit of 2500. Remember to narrow down the scope of your studies :)

I finalised most of my research during the summer holidays. Once the HSC year really kicks in it's quite difficult to find time to work on the hex major work.

For example I did mine on the cultural depictions of Lady Jane Grey. There was heaps of information. I narrowed things down to her execution scene and went from there.

I heavily recommend utilising the State Library of NSW. The sheer amount of resources they have there is unbelievable.
