I have been struggling with Mathematics, with all the work we've had to do and what not, i didnt even get half in our half yearly exam. I wanted to know if dropping down to General Mathematics was a good idea like say at the end of the Hsc i get 50 in Mathematics wouldn't it be better if i could get at least 80 in General, also i have learnt that dropping down makes some courses unavailable for me at University what would this include??????

I don't have much experience with General maths but from what I've heard the courses are quite different - General has 'general' maths but 2U has calculus and applications of it. Anyway - general has one of the poorest scaling out there, so from a scaling perspective it may be useful to keep 2U. It is true some courses require 2U as assumed knowledge / pre-requisite like science/engineering...

Talk to your teachers as we are unaware of your complete circumstances (school rank, cohort strength, assessment ranks)

Assumed knowledge yes, prerequisite no.

Do more study and ask for help from your teachers!

Also, how long/how much are you studying maths each night?

I went terrible in my first mathematics test because I didn't study, but for the half-yearlies I studied and smashed them!

I studied just a tad, it was like 3 days before the exam and did it only once, i reckon if i put more study into it i would be better, a lot of my time has been just spent on the homework

yes, in comparison to 2 u general has horrible scaling, also if you dropped down to general class, you wouldnt get the same topics, Some 2u people drop to gen at late hsc and fail as they didnt do any topics relevant to it. if you work hard you will deff get better so just consistantly study and the sky's the limit!!

Homework is REALLY important for Math, and its nearly as important that you do the homework on the day your teacher gives it out. Because then it stays in your head. Also, if there is any LITTLE thing you dont understand, like anything, you have to ask your teacher, math isnt something you can just learn out of a textbook, especially the more elusive topics.
Constant practise, determination and a lack of prejudice is probably needed for a good mark. And dont do General Math, apparently its really boring.
