i need to make an experiment to investigate why ethanol is a good solvent
and need some information about the classes of substances for which ethanol is a good solvent.

- i need the chemical properties of ethanol that make it a good solvent
- general classes of substances that readily dissolved in ethanol
- relate the molecular structure of a substance to its solubility in ethanol

plz try 2 help me out

I'll try my best to help

- Chemical properties that make ethanol a good solvent
Ethanol = Ch3CH2OH or C2H5OH
the OH (hydrogen bonding) is polar and thus dissolves polar substances
the carbon chain is non-polar and thus dissolves non-polar substances. THus it is a good solvent

- small chained hydrocarbons can be dissolved and ALOT of other polar and non-polar substances
- the structure is basically the carbon chain and the alkanol functional group. If you need to, talk about the electronegative oxygen

Hope that helped!

You can also add that the OH end is Hydrphyllic and the H end is hydrophobic.
