hey pplz,

i really need help on analysising a poem im doing for my related text ... could u plz tell me if it's good ? and help me find 3 texts ~> with the link to physical journeys ?

I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.

I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

I must down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull's way and the whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.

thanx*~ ;)

Its a nice poem, although a title and the author wouldve ben nice :) Copy this into the related material page.
Firstly, identify what techniques there are in the poem:
1. Rhyme pattern : AABB
2. First person narration : "I must down..."
3. Reptition of "I must down..." at the beggining of every stanza
4. Alliteration : "ask is a tall ship and a star to steer ...", "wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking...",
5. Anthropomosphism: "sea-gulls crying..."
6. Similies : "the wind's like a whetted knife..."

Now, pick out the ones that help give you the impression that the persona is going on a physcal journey and explain WHY they do so, i'll give you two examples as i dont want to do all the work for you :p:
1. The rhyming pattern establishes an andante pace (a walking pace) to illustrate the persona's walking/physical trek to the seaside
2. Hmm.. i cant think of anything.. maybe: In addition to the walking-paced nature of the poem, the persona is pondering and the audience is voyeristically entering his thoughts as he wanders around the dockside and observing the view he loves
