Help! Othello Essay (1 Viewer)

I have to do an essay on Othello and have no idea what the question is actually telling me to do.. any help would be appreciated.

The question is:

"To what extent has your personal response to Othello been shaped by the enduring power of Shakespeare’s characterisation of Othello?

Support your evaluation with close analysis of the text, Othello."

The "To what extent" part requires you to make a judgement call. As for the body of the question, it could be asking you to evaluate the impact the character of Othello (as in the man Othello - not the play title Othello) had on your understanding of the message of the text. The analysing part is what you should already be doing in an essay... so don't worry about that part unless you don't know how to analyse.

These are just my thoughts on interpreting the question though...I could be completely wrong

So if I was evaluating the impact, I would be identifying his characteristic, analysing the connotations of the example, linking it to context and then answering the question again per paragraph?
