Yeah I've had that question before, and also got it wrong.
I'd like to know how to do it too. :/

If you look at the diagram, the distances from the storm to Quentin, Santos and Simone are the same (2). The distance from the storm to William, however, is double (I think this question will work better on hard copy) - which is 2x2=4.
Therefore the answer is D

Hope I made some sense;

For the first question posted up.

If you look at the question, the time for each person indicates the distance of each person from the strike. From the first strike, you can make an estimate of where the first strike would have been. From there I would probably make an assumption that William is 3-4 seconds distance away from the strike.

For the 2nd strike, it got closer to Quentine but distanced itself from others meaning that the william got more distanced. Therefore, only reasonable answer can be D which is 4 seconds.

2nd question.

If you look at "Origin and types of fossils", you will find that they indicated fossil as either "land" or "Sea" where land would probably mean terrestrial origin whereas sea refers to aquatic origin.

Only environment that can fit into the tuff fossil, is the an ocean near the beach because that is the only place where land and sea environments are both placed in.

Well, your working out is right. I just worded it differently.

Ahh I get how you were supposed to estimate the direction of the storm's movement and compare it to the other three observers. I ignored the 2nd strike bit for some reason.. Thanks :)

Well, you didn't have to assume anything about 2nd stirke - but I did.

Since you were trying to find the P value, 2nd strike is actually redundant - but I did it for some reasons.
