Pauline's internet business operates under highly competitive pressure. She has reorganised her workforce. Pauline allocates tasks to her workers according to their specialist area in teams of five. She provides the resources necessary to do the job but would rarely involve herself in teh workers specific task. Each team is accountable for decision making about their specialist area.

Her management approach is based on which management theory?
a) classical scientific
b) behavioural theory
c) political theory
d) systems/contingency

This one has stumped me. I think it is classical scientific but then again i think its contingency also. I think its contingency because it sort of uses all the theories.

- she allocates tasks to her workers (classical-scientific)
- specialist area in "teams of five" - work groups (behavioural).

I dunno, anyone have a clue?

this theory shit always screws me around hay...Just go to the text book read up on the shits and then u should get a answer...I still have to go through these in more detail..

It sounds more Behavioural on my end.

It could possibly be contingency - arguably that is. However, considering the choice is 'systems/contingency' which means you have to take into consideration the characteristics of a system approach to management - and the question doesn't mention that.

Also, even though she allocates the tasks that doesn't necessarily mean tis Classifical Scientific because she "would rarely involve herself in teh workers specific task". I mean that suggests democracy within the work force. Even in a Behavioural workforce, management has got to provide some form of work (its never 100% freedom) otherwise they'll all be running aruond like headless chickens.

Id say behavioural ... the manager delegates tasks, meaning they provide the resources and power the management posess in achieving such a task, allowing the group to function as a 'self-managed' entity.
The use of teamwork definately suggests the push toward worker participation, and is attributed to the behavioral theory

i say beahvoruial too cos pauline is delgating stuff..... cos an advantage in beahvorial theory is tha shorter chain ov command and therefore easier delegation

ive seen this question b4... was in my trials... da answer was behavioural... although it seems like contingency... but the working in teams part is definitely behavioural

Definitely behavioural because behavioural is based on Flat organisational structure and development of team structures.
