Hi,
I am currently a year 10 student in the selective class of a partially selective school with an ICSEA value of 990. Im looking for better school for my senior years my current choices in order of preference are Penrith, Girraween and St Marys Senior. My report are as follows:

Year 9 semester 2: 2 sound, 5 high, 3 outstanding
Year 10 semester 1: 8 high, 2 outstanding

I also haven't done very much extra curricular activities, the only thing that is ticked on my report is the academic competition box and i only received participation for everything i did in year 9 and i wont be recieveing my results for the ones that i did year in time for when i send my application. I also did/am going to do stuff like zone cross country, zone athletics carnival, debating and school sporting teams however there are all after the reports were written.

Could you guys give me an honest opinion on whether you think i would get accepted into the three schools? There was also someone from my class who was accepted into Penrith last year, if that makes a difference for me.

Thank you

Hey, you're applying Girraween, too! *High-5!* Well, I don't know if Penrith has a test, but Girraween does and it counts for everything according to some people. Well, your report seems a bit dry... Saint Marys Senior isn't a selective school... More of a comprehensive... but a ridiculous amount of people apply there. Probably 800 or so apply... already know 50 people applying. HAHA. Just do your best. Are you good at Maths?

Yeah Giraween has an entrance test but penrith doesn't, last year when i did it i did very very well in maths but very very bad in english. So yeah i am pretty good at maths, i was in the top 5 for my class in most of the tests and i came 8th in the half yearly.

St Marys is a pretty good school even if it's not technically a selective school. That being said, your participation in extra curricular activities is often prioritised because many students who were accepted were average, or even below average students but participated a lot in school activities. It doesn't mean you shouldn't put in effort academically, because they will look at that too. I gave in participation awards as well and I think they still made a difference :) I think you have a good chance of getting into the school! I don't know much about the other schools though, sorry :) Good luck!

Even non-straight A students can get into 'selective schools' so there's hope.

Especially for schools that set entrance tests e.g. Hurlstone, Fort Street. etc. (since they look at the entrance tests results more so than your application - application is still important to an extent but test probably even more important)

Knew someone who got C for English but still made it to Fort Street.

Knew someone who got no As at all but still made it to Hurlstone.

Good luck!
