i thought the exam was ok, few multiple choice were difficult, the 7 mark question was challenging. Overall much different approach to past papers.
And the introduced species elective questions, the ballast water one took a while for me to think about! :|

How long did it take you guys?
i found myself with a fair amount to time to spare

Thought it was pretty easy, a few multiple choice were difficult but after discussing with my classmates after the exam I think im sitting on around 18/20

I'm suprised nobody has been confused about features of buildings that make them resistant to earthquakes because we arent engineers :L
Only reason I could answer that was because I watch Richard Hammond's 'MEGASTRUCTURES' on tv

yeah im thinking on going into geology i wouldnt think you would have to be awesome at maths where are you planning on studying mate?

I had issues with the last multiple choice question - because I thought it could either be the answer about impermeable rock to stop liquid escaping, or the one about the fault. In the end I went with the fault, because it was for domestic waste so there wouldn't have been many chemicals that could come out with the leachate, right...?

The finch one didn't bother me. I thought it was pretty obviously C. Don't remember this stratographic one you guys are talking about What about the pond question? Was the answer frogs and perch? I had no idea... I assumed the coal station would cause acid rain, so the answer would be the species that could best cope with acidity...

ahh ok yeah I just said they build on bedrock, sink metal poles into the ground to prevent liquefaction, have counterweights inside the buildings and bridges use the wires
all limit shaking or absorb and go with it

Domestic households use all kinds of harmful chemicals, eg detergents, herbicides, aerosols so I went with the impermeable bedrock

Umm im planning and really want to go to MAC UNI! cause it closest to my house and the campus and science labs are really nice and modern as well!! if i get into syd ill prob just choose mac cause for me travel time will be a bitch as in 2hrs ish one way! omg! i will die! my maths isnt crash hot. im only average at it.

what about you? which uni are u going to!?

nice nice im also considering that as well but id dosent quite intrigue me as geology and climate science does! lol p.s Your salary will be excellent! with the high demand and shift to a ecological sustainable society you are in high demand! and my uncle is one and hes doing great.

THE EXAM WAS BLISS!
Loved every bit of it. I thought that the extended response question in the core and Introduced Species were awesome. I think they got to the important parts of the course there. Plus, in the Introduced Species I got to bag out European Settlement for ages. Hehe. And I was so glad that the 7 marker wasn't about the evolution of the Australian continent. Oh, my relationship with that topic <3 I forgot everything about mine site rehabilitation and I wasn't too sure about the earthquake and buildings and stuff. The MC question about the fossils in a cambrian rock bed annoyed the crap out of me. I think it was A. Was tricky. Respect the board of studies for that.

For the option, where it said to organise the data in a 'more scientific way' what did you guys do? I was tossing up between a table and a column graph. Did a column graph. Wasn't sure :/

I kept writing till the end. And in extra booklets While all of my classmates, a grand total of 3, left by the 2 hour mark. Damn supervisors were glaring at me the whole last hour.

And TheWolfsLunch, how the hell do you have 17 Enviro students? Geez.

17? my earth class for hsc was 25. originally we had 45 students but pple dropped as you would expect.
AND YEAH! mAC FTW! i luv it as it is so close and has a good reputation for earth and environmental students! ahhhhhh yes i had had a look at B environment and sadly found out it was not what i really enjoyed and wanted to pursue, but is defiantly a backup! its more to do on conservation and protection which is all well and good but it does not excite me as much. BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS YOU ARE DEFINITELY GOING TO BE SET FOR A JOB! as the shift to a more environmental sustainable society will mean that the WORLD NEEDS MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU! (p.s my friend and uncle both did B environment and got job offers immediately after the completion of uni) so dont you worry about getting a JOB. You are in high demand!

and i will see you on the first day of uni! in about 5 months ish.

hmm some of the multiple choice were a little weird, for the stratigraphic sequence one I put (a) and the finch one I put (a) as well
what did people do for the first multiple choice question? was it a fold or fault? and also number 3?
As for the 7 marker I just put in a lot of what I knew for caring for the country, it wasn't really specific, so I'm wondering how they will mark it
and yess introduced species was good, loved the 6 marker

For the first question I put B - Fold formed at a convergent boundary.
Stratigraphic sequence question I put - A because it limited the layers, where as people that chose B didn't take into account that it may be a broad range.
For the finch question I put C. C was consistent with Darwin/Wallace theory of Natural Selection.

I went over the exam afterwards with my Earth teacher because I was stranded at the school for a day and got bored So if anyone has any questions I can tell you what she said the correct answers were...

Shit, I didn't even think about graphs. Would have worked much better than the table.

My teacher looked at me when we reached this question and said "I hope you did a table - graphs would have been fine too but tables are the smart answer because they're easier, simpler, quicker to draw up, and there's less chance they'll rob you of points because of a miscalculation/transferal." So no stress, tables were cool.

I was very disheartened after going over the multiple choice with her, because I got like 15/20, but for the other sections she thinks I was on the money for everything so hopefully that makes up for it...

the test was sort of easy. loved the questions. i went through the past papers book the night before and it was really helpful, considering i was the only person doing ees at school through correspondence. i
