Yeah, I went through high school thinking that Year 11 AND 12 marks count towards the HSC, no one ever told me otherwise. I didn't find out the truth until I researched it for myself.

Some subjects have a larger workload than others. What subjects are you thinking of taking next year? We'll be able to give you a better idea that way of how much work you'll get.
Um, Mathematics, Physics, CAFS, Society and Culture, Legal Studies and Standard English. I might change it around a bit next year, don't know yet but that's what my choices were. Nothing too advanced.

Mathematics you'll be doing 1-3 hours per night depending on how much you get done in class, what topic & how well you understand it.
With physics it tends to differ but sometimes you'll be doing calculations and that takes roughly 1-2 hours depending on how much there is.
My friend does Legal and there is quite a bit of writing and terminology.

I used to email my teacher heaps until I got the hang of writing essays on my own, now I rarely do it (one essay a mod maybe?)

Yeah, I know there is a lot of essay writing in Legal Studies and work, but the law interests me for some reason, so that's why I picked it.

That's good that you've picked something because you're interested in it. It usually means you have more motivation to get the work done in that subject which will help you achieve a better mark.

Yeah, I have been told to ignore the myth that "Do high scaling subjects to get an good ATAR." My cousin said that I should do Ext 1 Math, Advanced English, Chem, etc all subjects that I am not good at.

You should choose subjects that you enjoy and are/or good at. If you aren't interested in chem then it makes it harder to study for and it will drag your ATAR down. I think you've got an interesting mix of subjects as people don't usually do CAFS & Physics. Sometimes subjects will clash and you'll need to choose another subject. Another option is moving schools.

Yeah, like Senior Science can't be studied with any other sciences. I think CAFS is pretty easy and sometimes you need to mix in some easy stuff, I regret picking Society and Culture; I don't think it is going to interest me, I hate how my school made us pick so early; I know schools that are picking in Term 4.

Picking in term 4 is quite late. You can always change which subjects you've picked in the first few weeks of Term 1 do you may be able to switch S&C for something else. Apparently you can do Snr Sci in HSC with the other sciences.

I do physics and I'm in year 11. It's easier than I thought it would be but it's not super easy. It's more solving problems using formulas, which are given. If you enjoy mathematics you'll enjoy physics.

I felt exactly the same as you and I was advised to choose standard English. My advice to you is to change to Adv. english if you want to excel in English as you will be with students who want to succeed, compared to standard where they have to be there and dont care. I actually put some effort in std. eng and im now topping the year in all the tests and hopefully will move up to adv. next year. what ATAR are you aiming for?

I think you can go from Advanced to Standard but I don't think you are allowed to do the opposite. I am aiming an ATAR of at least 70, trying to be realistic. I will always do my best to get the highest ATAR possible but it not always possible.

Preliminary Physics is not as scary as you think. Follow the requirements of the syllabus. Cover each dot point in depth along with the practicals you do. Do a few past papers. That's Year 11 Physics. Of course Year 12 Physics will be much harder.

Do you learn it exactly like the syllabus states? Like this one for the premlin course.

This is the latest syllabus: http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/syllabus_hsc/pdf_doc/physics-st6-syl-from2010.pdf
The left column is stuff you'll learn through theory & past questions. The stuff on the right is usually stuff related to experiments. Have a look at the resource section to see some examples of work in physics.

In some cases you can but you have to be acing standard for them to let you do adv. It rarely happens but it's possible. Paper 1 of the English exam is the Area of Study which both English do. I don't think ESL does it.

Someone told me that there is no difference between Standard and Advanced except that you study Shakespeare in Advanced. Is that true?
