WPA security on a 802.11g is good enough for home netowrk.

it is not really true that WEP is easy to hack, you will still need someone really dedicated to hack you. So WEP is good enough if you aren't paranoid.

As for hacking others, firstly you need to get linux installed :p

Yes, if your network is not secure.

The two most common options are WEP encryption and MAC address filtering. Look in your router's manual on how to configure these settings.

Most routers have a page that lets you see the current wirelessly connected devices. You should use MAC address filtering to make sure only the devices you want are connected.

You mean WEP? It uses a key to encrypt everything that is transmitted in the wireless network so that those that might pick up the packets won't be able to directly read what is being sent.

you need to find hour router's ip...

type http://(router ip) into your browser and you should get into your router config...

if your router has it go to the mac adrees table and input the ones you want to giive acess...that way no one else can use it...

You should also change the default SSID, for gods sake don't leave passwords as dfault eg 'admin'.

Use WEP, definatly use MAC address filtering (it is probably the most secure method).

Oh Lord AC if without any set-up at all your girlfriends laptop will connect then your network is not secure. My advice is to turn it off until you ahve worked out how to secure it.

For those interested in the flip-side: wardriving is the term for it, wardriving is illegal and unfortunately (for those running wireless networks) a growing problem because of the relative ease with which it is done using freely available software.
