Difficult question, even if you're not interested in her in 'that' way; always has so many implications... Soothest way to do it, regardless of your intentions is to make the assumption she has a boyfriend (as wikiwiki said); she'll correct you if she doesn't. It's an indirect compliment for her, too, and also implies you're interested in her without being TOO interested or direct.

Definetly shouldn't be done too early, as Soha said... on one hand you need to know, but in the early stage it shouldn't matter: get to know them and if "some big cunt" (quote:SashatheMan) comes up to you & is aggressive, he shouldn't be so insecure as to prevent his girl from socialising. ...Chances are if he were that protective/jealous you'd not have had a chance to talk to her becuase he'd not have left her side, anyway.

lol this thread reminds me when i went to greenwood about 2 months ago and i was walking to find my friends cos i couldnt find them and this guy sticks out his arm just as i was walking past him so i bump into his arm and sorta have to step back and he goes hi and i go hi and then straight out asks if i have a bf and i go yea. He says does he get jealous? and me, thinking that if i said yes i would get rid of him says yes. He goes i wouldnt. UGGGHH I go uhhhhh okay cya round and left.

Other guys just ask for phone numbers and then i have to break the news to them that breaks their hearts ---well not really cos they find some girl whos actually willing toget with them.

Okay, if they do have a boyfriend they will be flattered, or replused (doesn't matter because they're taken right?) And if they're not taken they won't be offended that you think that they had a boyfriend!

You all sound like you're ashamed to ask it. When there's a lull in the conversation, just ask "Are you single?" If you act nervous, you will seem like a freak.

i'd rather a guy asked if i had a boyfriend or if i was taken than 'are you single?'. the word itself makes me think of single, desperate 30somethings and i'd rather not be thought of like that.

the thing is, if she says that she doesnt have a boyfriend, wouldnt it be a bit awkward after that.

what would you say next....something like "ohe,ok so you wana hook up?"
well - if she says no b/f, then just make convo with her y'know .. and hint that you're interested
either that or get too shy and walk off.. or you could always be straight forward and say something like "well i think you're hot and blah blah.. so would ya be interested?!"
hmmm - it's worth a shot

I dont mean with those words, but guys shouldn't try and mask their intentions. Mainly because girls are stupid enough to not think that every guy wants to sleep with them.

start chatting as usual, somewhere just slip in a "so whats your boyfriends name again?" or "wheres your boyfriend tonight?"

subtle-ish but its been used alot with no problems

its alot better than
"Youre hot, you must have a boyfriend. Does he mind if i slip a rohypnol in your drinK?"

Could probably use it as an opener:

"hey there, are you single?"

obviously would only work in certain places.

If a guy says that, the fag isn't worth your time.

Casually bring it into the topic of conversation.

e.g. "I like salami. Do you have a boyfriend?"
