1-10 = 100 UAI VERY likely with 99.95/99.90 being common

11-50 = 100 UAI likely with few 99.5+ and many 99+

50-100 = 100 UAI is rare. But some schools really manage it (like Cherrybrook Technology). Few 99+

100 - 200 = 99+ UAI. 100 UAI extremely unlikely. But I have seen two schools getting people with 100 UAI. In fact, St Patrick's College Strathfield had two people getting 100 UAI in 2004. That's awesome. Few 99+

200-300 = 99-96 UAI. No 100 UAI, I reckon

300-400 = 97-90 (varies)

400-500 = 95-85 (varies)

500 - 700 = 90 below.

That's what I reckon.
thank you. Yea cherrybrook technology how do they get 100UAIs and are only ranked 50-100!

Namu, is it nice to be asked for your professional opinion?
Well, I don't know. But some people would actually be better off asking for my opinion questions instead of yours as you seem to post entirely incorrect reply.

To dux&src: Cherrybrook is a great public school that has a very good mix of academics & non-acdemic schools. The rank of the school does not necessarily mean that the students are at that particular level. Rank only reveals the average result. It is just that some people's awesome result in Cherry got pulled down people who performed atrociously badly. Look at minijumbuk, he is pretty awesome in maths and chemistry. I wouldn't have thought that he is at that school if I judge people by school.

On a side note, Epping boys had a boy getting 100 UAI last year despite being ranked like 80 or 90. (I am not really sure, I think it got ranked lower than that)

EDIT: Cherrybrook is located near north-west of sydney. Yeah. It's close to my region, hornsby. And no, it's not the indians. That guy is a racist bastard who doesn't know anything.

So if my school is ranked 400-500, and I achieve the same results as someone from the higher ranked schools, I'll get 95 and not 100? :(

No. I was talking about the general trend.

In the context of your post, anyone can get 100 UAI regardless of where you go. It is just that it is extremely rare to see someone getting 100 UAI from a school ranked between 400-500. (no offence, it's just the recurring trend that I come across with). I know that even my school (ranked 101) will find it difficult to produce someone getting 100 UAI.

Oh lol haha, yea i know of schools that have poor ranks yet a student pulls a 99 UAI. haha so minijumbuk attends cherrybrook?

yea Epping boys had a boy named Jack Dwyer who achieved a 100UAI. Awesome!

haha i like namu's posts because it's always detailed.

Yeah that's true.

I know of a girl that went to a school ranked around 370 that got 99.95 and the reason I know this is that they displayed it on their school board for every motorist driving past to see.

How proud they must have been. :)

You are my favourite poster named Lyounamu on this forum, you are also the only poster named lyounamu but if there ever was to be another. You'd still be my favourite. :)

To be honest, a UAI of over 95 would be great for me, although I have very high expectations of myself. Combined Law at USYD is 99.5 :cold: and while it isn't something that I'd go crazy over, it's definitely something I'd consider if I can yield the results. If I don't make it, there's always Arts (Psychology) 98.50, Economic & Social Sciences 91.85, Commerce/Arts 94.30, Psychology 96.95.

I'm just a person who has high expectations, and if I can do Law, great.

EDIT: One thing that I'm interested in, is why Psychology has a lower UAI cut-off than Arts (Pyschology)

No it's not. It's the number of band 6s/number of courses taken by the school.

I know namu you earlier stated that this is the normal trend. I just want to make it clear that just because you don't go to a school ranked in the top 200 doesn't mean you won't get 99+.

I have examples. hehe :)

lets see
there
from what i've heard there was a boy who went to leaumeah high who got a 97 UAI.
anymore please share them with us.:D

No. It's the number of 6s divided by the number of exams. So it's like average than the number of band 6s alone.

To Akrinis: I think Arts(Psychology) is a Combined Course. That's probably why it has got a higher UAI cut-off. And good luck.

To Anfernee: thanks. It's great to be seen that way.

number of exams is the same as courses taken. If you are listed as taking the course then you sit the exam.

It's not the average at all. It measures how good the top end of the school is.

Sorry, didn't recognise the "/courses taken" thingy.

You know what I meant. I basically meant that. I just failed to get the right message across. *ranting on my inability to write cohesive and clear post*

I'm in the 95-98 range? My cousin got a UAI of 99.25 (HSC 2006) and him attaining that UAI was purely based on effort whilst mastering it, as I saw him studying all the time when I went over his house. I don't think he had natural talent...So I disagree with those stats/generalisation.

Rough estimation, by no means the statistically correct answer.
this is utter bs. it doesn't matter what school you go to. if the dux's all get the same marks, then they will all get the same UAI!

I don't know where i'd be on this scale....I'd hope 98-100 but i'd really, seriously doubt that.

sigh how about stop being a little politically correct shit and read what she was asking

"What would the Dux get (assuming he/she gets 90+% in all his/her 10U) if they went to the following schools?"

i gave her the "typical" (in my view) uai of a dux for a school in the given range of ranks, obviously school doesn't matter if you're ranked first in everything but on a general plane i don't see any ranked 600 schools consistently getting 99+ UAI dux do I?

No.

90+ is relatively simple. 95+ however, is a different story.

I hate the way the media rates schools in the newspaper in these so called school rankings, because it is discouraging for people who go to these schools. Because anyone can get any marks and UAI they want, regardless of which school they go to, and regardless of how people at their school last year went.

Even if you went to the school that came last on this list, and if you are dux of your school, and if you get good marks in the HSC, then you can just just as good and even better UAI than people who go to James Ruse.
