how long before the trials should i start to study seriously?

You should study throughout, HSC is a gradual process.
Besides, how do you know you still want 85-90 by the end of the yr, its always best to try as hard as you can so you can twist and turn if things arn't going the way it should be.

trailas for me are like week 3 and 4 next term so not even a couple of months haha

Depending on ur skool, some make their own, some buys them.
generally it is harder just to freak the students so they study harder.

Then I'd be starting intensive study now.
I left proper study for my half-yearlies til two weeks before, and I really needed more time, so if you're anything like me then start NOW!

you can start studying now, but really coz i had crap due close to my trials i basically had a week to study...hmm..those palm cards that u can get for certain subjects (cnt remember which ones) helped a lot...IMO

You should be studying constantly and revising regularly (i.e. writing study notes).
