Well obviously you will get assessed on each topic you do, if they will be in assignment or in-class test format? Well that all depends on your teacher.

Plus add on top of that your half-yearly and trial exams.

Each individual school is different. For instance, in legal studies, we mainly had in-class essays as assessments, whilst at other schools they had several take home assignments.

The general rule is about 3 or 4 assessments (including the Trial) for 1 unit subjects and maybe 5-7 for 2 unit subjects.

This, in terms of the total amount of exams and assignments that you will recieve

The BOS says 2 - 3 assessment tasks per one unit course and 4 - 5 is plenty for a 2 unit course (with English allowed to go to 6).

I know many schools do more than this but I also know that the BOS has come down hard on independent schools who do that - from personal experience when my school was told we were over assessing with 6 tasks, including two exams, in the HSIE subjects so we had to reduce the number to 5 including exams to met BOS requirements.

So how many things do you get counted towards an ATAR, about 4-5 assessments the whole year including trials?

And an assignment for MATHS? What could that possibly be?

Hardly any schools issue assignments for maths, although its not unheard of.

I wish they would do that. I wish they would give you tests to do at home and hand it in the following day, lol, never going to happen though because it's cheating obviously.

Essentially, every single piece of assessment you do for the HSC counts towards the ATAR in some way.

And assignments for maths could be take-home exams or groupwork. Though the latter occurred in General only.

That's disgusting...

I love take home exams. I would without a doubt get 100% in all of them, LOLZ.
No... I'm coming second in Bio because I fucked up the first assignment by doing a 4,500 word report and model of the eye the night before... :/
I can only do assignments the night before.
