How many words should our essays be? (1 Viewer)

I just tried to write an essay in 40 mins and it was only 900 words and I'm concerned that this isn't enough. No matter how hard I tried I don't think I will be able to write 1000 which is what my teacher recommended, as I was going as fast as I possibly could. Will I still be able to get good marks with a shorter essay? I also only have 9 quotes all together (2 from one text and 7 from the other) is this ok?

900 words sounds fine, it's good to be concise

Try to balance the quote count a bit more though, you would need more than 2 quotes to sustain an argument and show the marker that you actually know the text
