You have 50 minutes to write out a pre-planned essay that you've already been given the question for.

You memorize the essay back to front.

how much can you write?

Well, it depends on the person really. I think most people should be able to get around 1,100 - 1,200 in that time with a fully memorised response. There are probably some who could write up to 1,500 and possibly more.

Time it. I know students who couldn't even hit 900 in that time.

Personally for me, I can usually get down 1300-1400ish but as enoil said, it depends on the person.

I just timed this with my own essay. 1500 words in 50 minutes, with the essay printed out in front of me.

The AoS HSC paper is 2 hours long (+10 mins reading time), with three sections, equivalent to 40mins per section. Unless you cut down on time in either the unseen texts, or creative writing section, you'll have 40 minutes, not 50. I recommend students reach 1,100-1,200 words in 40 minutes for a fully prepared answer.

Ive got out just under 2500 words in an hour for my extension 1 English essay. Writing was not to neat but all the content was there, but as enoil said it depends on the person and how much you want it ;P
