- CAFS easy as pie
PDHPE what a bludgggeee
SaC eaaassyyy it's like "Pop Culture" class. General Knowledge basically
LEGAL. General KNowledge (GK) again.
ECON - General.
EARTH SCI - General
SNR SCI - Easy.
BIO - Easiest science. Easier than SNR SCI and surprisingly, more visual and practical but more superficial (School Cert-level plus 40% extra)
CHEM - I know "it scales well" but I have read through the books and study guides and I didn't take cuz I wanted something more of a challenge and more interested, ie applied Chem which is Biologuy./
PHYS - HARDLY ANY maths content at all. Calculations are Year 7-level. Why don't we just call the course "Senior Science-Physics specialisation area" ? :/ it's just a science literacy course like Snr Sci. But all sciences are crappy and too easy. Except Bio (bring on the neg rep again. It has to be said)

And.


There should be a UNSW-delivered "Medicine & Surgery Foundation Science" HSC Distinction course that is equivalent to one year of a UNSW MB,BS. This would reward people (about 100/65000) who get predicted HSC marks and ATARs of 99.00+

Phys & Chem = First two modules

Well I guess given the year 10 level Genetics add/subtract.multiply.divide tangent to the curve and sums of ma derivatives maths in Biology is pretty hardcore. So ummm I reckon I'd have to study my arse offf to get a band six. LMFAO

I did Music 1, but had to practice a few hours a day (Mainly because I enjoyed it though, not for hsc ).

No matter what subject, even if its gen maths, you'll still have to study.

hey nice atar. 99.85...what were ur hsc marks? Didn't u have to struggle all year to say on the top? When did you start doing practise questions? I am thinking of starting them after the holidays...

And can someone tell me pls, how u can keep ahead in MX1.....because i don't have a tutor and i dont believe in tutoring seriously because when i study in class, i can still get sound marks (86% or so). but i would love to keep ahead....so what should i do? Just read and make reference notes, so I know how to do the ques in say...integration or any other topic??

• I managed to do significantly less work than most others by simply writing notes on the SYLLABUS. Most people never look at the maths syllabus and others don't even know it exists. Looking at what exactly we need to learn and having the 'right' way explained in the syllabus was really helpful and it removed any element of doubt.

My marks ranged from 94-99. I went well because I did subjects that I liked and made sure i included those such as Visual Arts & Geo so I could make use of my ability to bullshit. I never got a tutor for any subject. I in no way sacrificed my social life; i have a girlfriend of 8 months and made sure i went out every weekend this year, except the weekend before trials (yes, i went out the weekend before half-yearlies). Studying varied significantly between subjects, but knowing how to study appropriately for each subject made my workload shitloads smaller...

English

• Rote learnt essays and adapted them in the exam by adding an entirely new introduction (although my introductions were generally very short) and changing thesis statements (pretty much just the first line) of each paragraph (i had 4 paragraphs for each essay; 2 on set text, 1 on either text of my own choosing).
• I wrote essays, then made them as succinct as possible. I avoided verbosity for the sake of verbosity; i.e. i didn't use big words unless they were necessary in that they replaced several other words.

Maths (+ Ext 1)

Business

• I made notes DIRECTLY off syllabus dot points. My textbook was shithouse. I realised after the first internal assessment that you can pretty much rote-learn the syllabus dot points and everything else is bullshit, as the only 'correct' answers are those taken directly from the syllabus.

Geography

• Again, notes made directly on the syllabus
• Predominantly bullshit
• Conventional textbook was shit; I used the Macquarie textbook because its more syllabus-oriented

Visual Arts

• Body of Work: I did photography. I made sure i had heaps of technically good photos, then came up with themes that related to fewer, select groups of these photos, then eventually developed an idea based on the 10 or so photos that suited it. I ended up submitting 4 photos.
• Theory: Essay righting is predominantly bullshit. I memorised a paragraph for each of my 3 focus artists (George Grosz, Barbara Kruger, Banksy) and adapted slightly to suit the question in the exam, relying on the recurring question related to art reflecting society or lamenting societal plight.

If you need me to be more specific or have any other questions, i'm happy to help.

for your internal assessment marks, to get a 94-99 range mark, I think you would have surely scored a band 6 in all ur assessments. Because I find it shit hard to score a band 6 in the sciences and in economics, as well as english......The max I get is a 14/20, maybe even lower and I really wanna know how scaling worked for ur grade 2009. Because a lot of people from selective schools are telling me that your school marks change dramatically and get pushed up heavily for different subjects.....to what extent is this true? Can you tell me a bit more on this.....My first assessments were shit hard....except for business, I scored 91%, but the rest were low band 5's and a high band 4. And maths 2u was 89, maths ext 1 was 87.

I didn't bother to put Hospitality on my easy list, I did admit it was easy though. I just FORGOT because I'm human and also because Hospitality isn't a 'real', Category A subject, it's Cat. B (bring on the neg rep)

And Hospitality is hard physical work in a hot kitchen with 2 weeks of work placement. 2 35 hour weeks. And when you're not working for free chopping onions and potatoes and tomatoes in a kitchen that has lots of business but no heart, you're at school doing the same thing but with more freedom that just chopping vegetables

Hospitality may be easy by academic standards but I challenge all you fat sweaty unfit nerds to do it!

how far should you go? if you're keen, disregard Preliminary and start HSC courses (first modules/topics per each of six subs).

But if you're just bored, then do the basic skills for science - e.g. "8.1 Biology Skills Module" . Specified in the Sciences syllabi.

For maths, do as much DERIVATION and APPLICATIONS as you can. Don't do this "Imma memorise 10000 formulas crap" everyone does. If you learn maths like that and don't actually understand it, some teachers and mathematicians consider that a form of cheating and "it's not truemathematics"


For English READ UR TEXTS for Yr 11. And Yr 12. Anything you can stomach!

For other VET subjects like Hospo: practice your cooking and TECHNIQUE: e.g. CORRECT knife grip, NOT what feels "good" all the time. K?



Oh and PDHPE is a party. So easy to me. And everyone. Don't prepare for it if you're doing it. Same said for CAFS, SaC, VART, MUS1, DAN, DRAMA and LEGAL...oh and also:

What subject are you talking about? I think it's probably a much better idea, assuming you're eager enough to be working at this stage, is to focus on internal assessments. If you pay attention and work during the term, you won't have to do nearly as much work overall.

I'm talking about all my subjects: business, eco, chem, bio.......I don't know, but I'm not very happy of how much I'm studying. But I am making progress...
No, I am not exactly sacrificing my social life, I don't seem to be having a big one that's all.

You should be the end of these holidays. Have all your dotpoints/summaries done for the first topics covered in Term 1 finished. IE for me (Phys/Chem/Bio) covered all the dotpoints. Refurbished my english essay for Module B and for Maths i just revised and revised.
You wont get this time later so do it now.
You should also start reading up on material that will be covered early next year and start preparing a planner for exams and study periods.

Yeah, no I'm not putting down hospitality, all subjects require different skills I understand that, I just don't think physics and chemistry should be on the easy list.

That's the thing. I don't make detailed study planners, because I don't end up following them. Procrastination is one of the reasons, but it's not always that.
So I usually jot down the activities I need to get done at the start of the day for the entire day. This way, I don't feel that I'm forced to study, as I don't have a timetable to constantly stare at and frustrate myself. I've tried it so many times.

Yes, as for me, I have completed first 2 modules for chemistry, will do the same for biology, I have finished 2 mods for business studies and for maths, I am not sure if I can learn on my own (ps. I've never tried keeping ahead of class in my life) and probably this is my mistake. Would I be able to understand the maths content easily (without a tutor, because I have never done tutoring and still get desirable marks if I work hard)?
