Its been a year pretty much since I have delved into the prelim business content. Our teacher says it does not matter for HSC but are there any aspects of it that are not in the HSC syllabus but should be known?

The Business Studies HSC exam directly assesses the syllabus of the Business Studies HSC course and does not directly assess the syllabus of the Preliminary Business Studies course, as opposed to other subjects, such as maths, where some year 11 concepts may be assessed in the HSC exam. This means that, in studying for your Business Studies HSC exam, your focus should be on knowing and understanding the syllabus of the HSC course.

When considered in terms of the HSC course, the Preliminary course simply provides a knowledge foundation of basic concepts that are explored in-depth and from different perspectives in the HSC course. For example, the business management topic from the Preliminary course seeks to explain the nature and responsibilities of management in the business environment. Consider the concept of management, which is explained in this topic. In the HSC exam, you will not be directly assessed on the basic concept of management, that is, you will not need to define management in answering a particular question. However, you may need to use your knowledge of management and apply it to the concept(s) from the HSC course that a particular question is targeting in the HSC exam. A good example of this is the objectives of financial management dot point from the finance topic in the HSC course.

I hope this helps! 😄
