Sophistication of ideas, elegance/sophistication of language, and most importantly, answering and engaging with the question well. What does it take to get a 95+ Advanced English mark? What separates them from a normal band 6?
Having something slightly interesting and original to say also helps.Sophistication of ideas, elegance/sophistication of language, and most importantly, answering and engaging with the question well.
Also, maintaining consistency is important throughout modules - don't have "weak" modules where your essays are less than 17/20 or 13/15 level.
Yep of course, sophisticated/original ideas and not being too strict in terms of structure/having a bit of an elegant flow with the way you say things, not just "Q/T/E/Link to Rubric - rinse and repeat".Having something slightly interesting and original to say also helps.
Absolutely agree with these posts. I got 96 for English and was simply due to having a concise yet sophisticated essay. My assessments throughout the year were high, so 14-15/15 or 19-20/20 but in trials, I went down from 1st in English to 10th due to my marks being in the low 80s. However, I managed to pull through and do well in my actual HSC English exam. Everything is possible if you put the effort in!Yep of course, sophisticated/original ideas and not being too strict in terms of structure/having a bit of an elegant flow with the way you say things, not just "Q/T/E/Link to Rubric - rinse and repeat".
But tbh your ideas don't need to be overtly sophisticated and you can still get 95 if you get 15/15 short answer, 13/15 creative, 14/15 Belonging and then dropp 2 marks on your essays per module.
Yes. I got 95 in english with raw HSC essay marks in the 13 and 17 range.Would you be able to get 95+ in English if you always got 18-20/20 and 13-15/15?
I would love to know this tooHow do you make your English essay "sophiscated", without sounding overly verbose?
Use language that conveys sophisticated ideas, not ideas that are backed up with verbose language. How do you make your English essay "sophiscated", without sounding overly verbose?
I just find it difficult. Every time I think I have a new idea, it's already been done before. The syllabus has been on the same things since something like 09?Having something slightly interesting and original to say also helps.
