But wouldn't the kitten get attached to my neighbour instead of me? Also, what is the optimal age to turn an indoor cat into an outdoor one?
They usually roam around the suburb any way and train themselves. They will visit other backyards, decrement in other backyards, destroy plants and be a complete nuisance to your neighbours (as I have recently experienced) if you don't take care of it or you don't train it (ie give it specific places to do its business).

It has been over an hour. What have you decided?
Update due here. What have you done with the cat?

Just leave it and let it roam freely, and if you are infront of ur parents and see the cat say this "Omg, a cute kitty cat surprisingly came into our house. I guess we have to keep it now "

They also kill other people's pets, as I've recently discovered. :c

OP, I've nothing against cats and the method that alphabetafeta96 suggested is actually one that someone I know used (successfully). However, do keep in mind that cats, by nature, like to roam around, and by nature, they like to hunt. If you do make it an outdoor cat, please train him/her (to defecate in appropriate locations) and also please put a bell on it's collar or something else to warn pets and wildlife :c.

Also, if possible, keep them well-fed to reduce any tendencies to hunt b/c of hunger.
All the best to you and your kitty:)

kittens are the most boring pets ever. All they do is sleep... might as well get a cactus. Though, hibernation does make her a lot easier to hide.

Awwww what a cutie :) What made you decide to get a kitten if you don't mind me asking? Is it a girl/boy?

Give it a few months when the kitten turns into a cat and is somewhat trained. Then you can slowly train it to become an outdoor cat. Do you have a backyard shed or basement? If you do, you can probably start there when your parents aren't around. Cats are usually self-sufficient and can learn how to toilet-train themselves but if you're gone for a while and they take a huge dump and stink up the room you really need to get rid of the smell before your parents become suspicious lol.
You're lucky that your kitten is a quiet one (so far). I personally wouldn't be able to hide the kitten for so long but I hope it works out at the end.

This is definitely true though they will hunt anyway (even if well-fed) to kill things out of sheer boredom.

Is this actually a joke post? Can't tell.

If it's serious - tell your parents. I don't even understand why you would try to hide it. It's just making the cat's life hard. Are you going to pay for it's food, vet, any meds/vaccinations the cat needs?

So just tell your parents. If they let you keep it / you convince them then you get to keep it great and the cat lives a happy life.

If they don't let you keep it, don't hide it from them - put it up for adoption on gumtree or give it to your local rescue place. I know the RSPCA has pounds that try to get their cats adopted by having some sit in various Petbarns around the country. I think they get adopted pretty quickly as they seem to be gone the next time I go there. Or I know a great rescue shelter SOS: http://www.saveourstrays.org.au . I got my dog from there. They will make sure the cat gets a safe and happy home. I think giving it to a rescue shelter would be safer than just giving it to anyone on gumtree IMO.

A cat should be able to live with it's family, and not be kept in one room / outside forever.

EDIT: Wtf are you giving it icecream for. Seriously take this cat to a rescue shelter ASAP. Most cats are lactose intolerant and shouldn't be eating icecream... they should have proper cat food - especially a growing kitten. Go get some cat food while you decide what to do / find a good shelter to take it to.

Yes, I'm going to pay for her expenses, will get her neutered in three months time too. Not going to give her to a shelter because they will put her to sleep if they can't find her a home.

The kitten is much better with me then the house I adopted from, which in absolutely a flee infested, excrement filled shithole.

I'll will get her reflective bell collar so that she can't hunt successfully.

:S

Rescue shelters do not kill, hence the name 'rescue'. Pounds usually do. Just find one that doesn't kill. The one I linked to is really good. When I was there I saw a big cat play area that they were allowed in.

Well good luck. I hope you let the cat be with your family and not lock it outside / in your room.
Another one I recommend is SDACH http://sydneydogsandcatshome.org/. They don't kill animals coming into shelter, they're really good and try to find pets their forever home.

So I picked a free kitten of someone from gumtree, brought it home, gave it a shower, killed some fleas, gave it some ice cream, it doesn't want to play with me, just sleep for majority of the time. My parents will be back in an hour, I don't know what to do with it. THey'll get mad if they found out I have a cat. Should I just keep it in my room until it's old enough to go outside?

Actually, she's been running freely around the house and outside for the past two weeks because my parents are overseas.

Hopefully she'll outgrow the need for suckling on nipples. If I put her on my lap, she'll just trying to find my nipples to suck on. And since it's summer, I'm always naked, now I have constantly sore nipples. Well now I know how mother's feel.
