So what does SETEEL stand for? I'm glad you asked!

S. Always start your first paragraph with an opening statement, so the marker knows what the essay is going to be about. From then on, dont include a statement in your paragraphs. Start from expand.
E. Expand on your statement; go further, be a more detailed.
T. State the technique used.
E. Throw in an example of the technique to support the statement.
E. Explain the effect of the technique and the example on the reader.
L. Link your argument back to the statement.

EXAMPLE PARAGRAPH:

*‘Moving into the world involves different pathways to new experiences’ could be interpreted in many different ways.* - Statement

Even though each pathway comes to the same centre of light, it branches upwards into different pathways shown at the top of the tree trunk. The tree symbolises the “Tree of life” as the tree that brings possibility to the world, it gives life and experiences to everyone.* - Explain
* This brings to the main point that moving into the world, shown metaphorically as the tree through the four different pathways to new experiences.* - Link
