Natural rubber..
Before the 1940s, most rubber was sourced from tropical areas such as Malaya and Burma. Rubber plantations were 'tapped', an incision was made and latex sap was collected, and refined into natural rubber. However, during WWII, the demand for rubber increased greatly (used for military vehicles- wheels etc.) and these natural rubber supplies could no longer meet the high demand. Even today, rubber is so widely and tropical plantations can no longer meet demand bla bla
Synthetic rubber..
During WWII, American and German scientists produced synthetic rubber, most commonly SBR (styrene butadeine). This still makes up 80% of rubber produced today.

This is what i remember from my notes :)

- Natural rubber = polyisoprene

It was mainly used in WW2 as vehicles and shizzz but, although it is a renewable source, cannot keep up with the increasing demand and hence new product must be introduced

- SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) is the replacement synthetic rubber

It is:

- more superior than natural rubber
- can be vulcanised to increase its elasticity
- etc etc etc etccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc
