What's everyone doing for their 4 pieces in the HSC? I'm doing
1. Ejercicio (Spanish study piece)
2. Blackbird-Beatles
3. Classical Gas-Mason Williams
4. Study in Em (core)

also, cold fingers while playing guitar is the single worse thing to happen on HSC day.......

I'm only doing two pieces on guitar and one on piano. My guitar pieces are:

Octavarium (Excerpt) - Dream Theater
Canon Rock - Jerry C

Let's pump up that distortion and rock the hell out! :)

I'm doing
Red House - The Jimi Hendrix Experience

Not the version on Are You Experienced? though.

My other piece is a saxophone one, however I may do another viva voce instead.

Mist-John Butler
Pachelbel's Canon in D (standard, i know, but i do really like the piece, and it's easy to show off playing, just speed it up until you can't play it properly any faster)

The second one on a classical guitar or the shred version? I did the classical one for a performance last year, can't remember how to play it any more though which is a bit of a bugger. Not a big fan of Canon Rock.

Classical one. The only shred version i have is Malmsteen's, and i'm not a huge fan of wanking on a guitar...

Ah cool. I don't mind occasional shred but there's something about Canon Rock that I really don't like. Not sure what it is.

- Willie Dixon - I Can't Quit You
This piece I arranged into something i felt was more structurally conjusive to prowess, just purely to show off the blues (a dying breed of musical existence)

- Jak Reid - To The Hills
I wrote this piece that evolved out of a strange exponential piece from a Mars Volta concert I went to. I liked the dissonance, and decided to contrast it with a more classical progression, moving into a Latin groove. Listen to it at www.myspace.com/bandunderreconstruction (plug my own music). This is the version of the piece in its production phase.

- Jak Reid - Hamner
This is a solo acoustic piece that I wrote whilst in New Zealand last year. Its really just a chance for me to slink into a chair and play my introverted melodic opus to contrast with the blues and the Hills piece.

Everyone this year seems to be doing a lot more of the traditional stuff, Pachelbel's Canon and theres atleast 150 guys playing jazz standards. Mix it up!

But all the best to everyone.

Having now done it for my HSC prac, I know exactly what you mean... I will never listen to that song again. >_>

Edit: I'm now getting into a lot more music by Petrucci... A lot more soul mixed with shred in music like that; just want I want! :)
