Why is it important to determine the chloride ion conc. in water?

maybe because too much is bad? and too little is also bad. haven't studied the course yet but it think that would be logical. there must be a right amount of Cl ions to provide stability for marine life

Too much Chlorine is hazardous for drinking also it increases the salinity in water which is bad for crops.

Low concentration = improves the taste of water
High concentration = unsatisfactory salty taste
