Slaves? The parents are doing it for the sake of their children, not themselves. They could just easily ignore their children and not care whether or not they succeed in life.

All he means is that, there are better ways to raise a child.
Teaching a child diligence is much better (and much harder), in the long run, than to force him to be dilligent.

If the only time u do work is when your parents force you to, once you leave home and hit uni or w/e, you may not do as much work.

Not always, when a child does really well it makes the parents look good. It gives them something to brag about at dinner parties. Ever wonder why a lot of asian parents compare their kids when they meet.

Some people suicide because of the stress/depression that comes with the HSC lol. But in any case: body/mind/soul are all equally as important because your mental health can affect your physical health.

Michael would get it wrong either way

That's so true. My parents would like, frame my HSC and put it up on the wall and tell everybody I got a UAI of 100 and talk about it everyday until my siblings get higher scores and brag about those.

at the end of the day, parents are just doing the best they know how to do.

mostly because they want their children to be more successful (= better quality of life) than them.

but yes happiness is sometimes overlooked in the process; shame that.

Well, most of my relatives probably indirectly do that, but what my parents say is, "Get good marks so we don't look crap when other people are saying how good their children did."

dude nobody has kids, spends tens of thousands raising them and then pressures the shit outta them just to look good. They do it to help us. Little do they realise their help doesnt help...when im told to study it makes me want to sleep...

Re: Pressure From Parents

My parents are very typical type of asian- korean parents.
I was told that i wasnt allow to go out at all, because this is my HSC year and i have to
study.....:(
They are my main reaason of stresss and its soooo fkn annoying.....
Because all of my friends in South korea has all same routine.
(also my parents who were born and studied at S.korea)
well, I can say whole korean students have exact same routine:

1. Go to school by 7am - at the latest, 7:20am -

2. Study at school till 5pm (only on mondays) and rest of the week (they go to school
six days a week.) school finishes at 8pm - self study at school. -

3. Come back home and pack your tutor college bag, and go to college.

4. Gets tutor att the college till 2:30am and when they come back, they do their school
hw

5. Same routine

they are expecting me to study till 2am!!!! :cold:
can anyone help me with the study tips?
I haave half yearlys next week and I have to do really well:(!!!!!!!

P.S. I came to australia in 2001 and doing esl!!! hw the hell is this possible?
I didnt pick it up, i picked up Adv.Eng and for my first assess i received 16.5/20
but somehow fkn esl teacher thought my results were below ave (average was 15.5)
dragged me down.
I heard ESL scales you down?!!!!
