I'm very interested in this major and I want to know if there are good job prospects involved? I'm looking to do it with a law degree also. This is because I heard some of the majors like international business later on will be fairly hard to find a job with it. Initially I wanted to do Eco and finance, but I was worried about the finance part since there's a lot of maths involved. Are there any graduates here majoring in HR who have successfully secured a graduate job in this field? Thanks in advance.

I work in HR and am completing my degree - there is no shortage of jobs out there in this field. International business is a very broad key program which will allow you to get a job in a number of fields - the world is becoming so globalised that people with international skills and expertise are highly sought after ... i don't know where you heard that it will be tough to find a job in, i think that's rubbish. Also if you're looking to get into HR you will quickly work out that just having a degree won't get you where you need to go - you need soft skills like negotiation, people skills and most importantly a decent sense of humour.

Good luck :)

I've finished the HR major and thought it was pretty good. The units are interesting and generally well taught. Also if you have a half a brain it's really easy to get decent marks without that much effort. I never got below a credit grade for any HR/business units, so it's good for your gpa.

I'm doing it with law though and it was a good to have something easier to break up the law readings...

Hi :)

I have completed the degree in human resources and industrial relations with a law degree and there are many jobs around as it is in high demand and always changing :)

During my university studies I have worked in the following jobs:

- 2 paralegal jobs work experience (one mid tier law firm one property law firm)
- 1 paralegal job immigration law
- 1 paralegal job commercial law
- HR intern at a recruitment agency
- HR Officer

I now have secured a full time role as a workplace relations adviser.

I hope this helps you.

aka paper shuffler......honestly I think you'd get more of mental workout flipping burgers (which is, in fact, a career that a lot of HR grads end up in)

You have to start somewhere and they were not all paper shuffler jobs. They were practical and really helped me gain experience to move forward and get ahead amongst other graduates.

I am not just a human resources grad I am a law grad, and I am going into the law field specialising in workplace relations law.

I never said I was an expert in human resources.

hahah omar, some 'creep from HR' is the one you're going to be going to for a graduate job. probs best not to belittle their work and play down their role. they can hire, but they will fire you. No HR = no employees = unhappy board of directors = business failure.

just guessing, but you're probably an accountant type ...
