i fucked up my first maths ext test
i got 100 percent initially and topped the year
then they found out they marked me wrong
i didnt put log to the base e i just put log
and i got put down to 69 %
eigth ranking
and yeahh. have been 1st in overall academic performance last 3 years
but im not worried.
study hard. and dont make silly mistakes again
WHAT THE FUCK
GO AND COMPLAIN, WHAT THE FUCK
THAT'S SO FUCKING STUPID
It's your HSC we're talking about, not some stupid year 10 test

Go and complain, since you know.. When Log is used without a base, it usually means the natural log (ie. log base e)
Like, take it up to the board if you have to, that's ridiculous

But what if it happens again? If I were in your shoes, I'd definitely continue to complain, even to the board if not approved by your teachers. But was that the ONLY question that was harshly marked? If there were more...complain. This is the HSC, not the prelims :).

Good luck with your future assessments.

That's not technically correct so what they did (taking mark off) is justified.

HOWEVER, if you continually lost marks due to same mistake (i.e. writing log instead of ln or log(e)), they should just take mark off the first question you made the initial error and put the rest of mistakes as working-down error that can be forgiven. (even in HSC)

So you should be entitled to all the rest of your result except the inital mistake that you made.

it's ridiculous
what happened is the working and everything was fine
right answer and everything ( this is for about 8 questions)
all of them the answers were correct but i forgot the e.
got like 1 marks out of 4 for working because i didnt put an "e" in every step
preety stupid but yeah, i certainly did continually loose marks for the same mistake, the answers and working were 100 percent though and he put a e next to the log and just crossed it :S
preety annoying but yeah too much of an effort to complain
was a really basic test
don't even know why they included logs in the extension one test
i'll make sure it doesn't happen next time

wtf that's ridiculous. log pretty much always means base e in maths. i doubt you would lose a mark in the HSC for not including the e

if your really that concerned i can give u my business resources for an extremely cheapo price. I used these and after i was in your position and i still managed to pull off a high band 5 in business . Im tired of advertising them so here they are:

Business Studies in Action 3rd edition - $30 - brand new

business success one 2007- brand new - $10

Preliminary Business studies - $9

just pm me, i also have my Business notes for you which i will throw in for free - these have been sold on here for $20 so your pretty lucky.

Please relax.

I stuffed my chemistry exam which was worth 25%, and it was out of 25. I already know I lost 7 marks out of that 25. So max I can get now is 18. That means only 9% out of 12.5% of my HSC.

OMFG SHIT IMMA FAIL CHEM....lol no...

Take it as this way....This is only an opportunity for you to play a game-called 'catch-up'. I'd prefer not playing this game, but last year I went from 56th at half yearly to 24th by yearlies. So at this point in time, its only one assessment task, it's already done, and theres nothing you can do....but play catch-up.

Good Luck.

The notations ln
x and log x for the natural logarithm logex should be
known. For historical reasons some books and calculators use log
x

for log10x. This practice should be discouraged.

Only thing I could pick up from the Syllabus that's relevant.

My first assesment for 3unit maths I was ranked 50/60th out of like 82.
By the end of the year I was ranked 15th.

Cry more.

But don't these assessments determine your rank? And aren't ranks most important in the HSC? So wouldn't it suck for, say, a selective school student who stuffs up even small assessments since one mark is like a 10-20 rank distance?
