Their reason for being there was to search the vessel. Sea Articles 42 and 51 of the United Nations Charter, Chapter VII

Plus the boat was owned by an Islamic organization, who just happen to be suspected of being a terrorist organization.

Yeah honestly, I don't get it. Regardless of what happened after they got on board, they are clearly justified in wanting to search it. Should they not stop vessels going from columbia to mexico if they claim to be humanitarians? It's ridiculous. Try going through an airport and refusing to be searched because all your luggage is for humanitarian purposes. It is ridiculous.

and israel has very little right to be blockading gaza in the first instance. if it was a ship bound for their shores - sure! but they should probably try to respond with less deadly force.

as it remained, an aid ship was destined for gaza, it was searched without provocation in international waters, a fight ensued, israel responded with force that was several orders of magnitude over what was justified. this is not the first instance of israel's super aggression

Israel operated external to the UN, it did not have Security Council backing, there was no threat to international peace nor security.

The reason they went over water was because they had other aims aswell such as transporting people into Gaza. It's absolutely ridiculous to attempt to bring aid into Gaza without military protection.

There are only three things people really need to take into account here:

1. That for all the world knew, the ships could have been carrying anything as far as the Israelis were concerned - they had the right to search vessels which could possibly be delivering weaponry to the Islamic terror organisation, Hamas. Even the delivery of basic "Hard Goods," such as concrete, which Israel has been blocking, would probably be partly used by Hamas to create bunkers and smuggling tunnels.

2. What kind of "peace activists" carry knives, crow-bars, flaming cocktails, pepper spray, stun grenades and handguns (as has so far been discovered amongst the 'activists' by the Israelis)? This has just been an elaborate propaganda attack on Israel.

3. The jury was out on Israel before the 'crime' had even been committed. Even if you don't like Israel you have to acknowledge the basic principle of "innocent until proven guilty" which, I'll remind you all, the Australian legal system operates under. A proper investigation hasn't even been launched yet, but already the world media is crying "massacre," "murder" and "attack" contrary to obvious evidence to the contrary (see below).

Life is pretty normal in Israel at the moment, (apart from a free Gaza protest I saw in the new city today, they were also saying Israel wasn't a democracy, which was amusing when they were practicing democracy by protesting in the first place) but most don't appreciate the magnitude of this event. The world has just over-stepped the boundary of having simple double-standards to being plain ridiculous.

It's more of a symbolic gesture that is supposed to lighten the mood in Gaza and bring cheer and joy to the innocent children of Gaza... And also, had the aid went through israeli routes then possibly half of the aid wouldn't make it in due to the strict rules imposed by paranoid israel. Cargo also contained reconstruction materials which are seemingly banned by israel.

Israel has never published a list of banned items but it has refused to allow into Gaza books, paper, blankets and reconstruction materials.

Israel had the right to search the vessels once they had entered their waters. Israel did not have the right to search them when they did. Nor did they have a right to use force in the first instant. Nor did they have the right to kill 19 people. Nor did they show any kind of restraint, research or regard. Israel has a right - some kind of right - to defend itself from actual threats. It does not have the right to use lethal force when dealing with what might be a thread, which turned out to be nothing more than an aid ship. which we all knew anyway.

i have several knives in my kitchen drawer. you'll be pressed to find any ship without knives. or metal poles - especially given they were carrying construction equipment and given that it was a ship. i haven't heard anything about pepper spray, stun grenades or handguns being carried by the israelis so ill rightly assume you just made that up, as you no doubt did.

NINETEEN CIVILIANS ARE DEAD

A proper investigation should be launched, but you don't need an investigation to criticise Israel for senseless murder. The only people not criticising it are bloodthirsy, biased, borderline retarded Zionists like yourself.
