apprently the medicine syllabus has totally changed to an arts/communications course...

a friend of mine is doing medicine and only has 13hours a week while ppl year b4 had 25+ hours.

he also says it is piss easy.

That's only first year though. I am told the workload increases exponentially through the years (especially when they introduce the fun stuff like cadavers).

Of course, this is from my cousins and friends at interstate unis.

next year we still have 18 contact hours.
(but yeah, ur expected to study outside school, and u need to apply urself to keep up wit it yeah?)

u dont have to, at least not for unsw. But it'll make it a bit easier jus understanding the work when u start.

Nope no general education units- come to think of it, we don't have units or subjects...we just have MED1011 and MED1012 this year, so not much flexibility.

We have one unit called a 'selective' which broadens our experience of medicine. I personally chose the one where we learn about healthcare in the Aborigianl community as well as their culture and society- this involves me going bush for a week in the Flinder's ranges (South Australia) in the mid-sem(2) break. AK on the other hand is standing in on a surgical procedure and has to write a report about what he sees.
So yeh...I like UNSW better in that sense. The choices of general education are more interesting.
