Applying doesn't mean they are automatically granted. They will look at a number of stats before looking at how to moderate your marks if they are accepted.

Illness/misadventure appeals are handled by your Principal in the first instance, the Board of Studies only looks at them if the Principal denies it and the student appeals.

I have heard a number of cases where whole years have applied for misadventure, tends to happen when there's something wrong with their exam building.
