Lol Japan is a 100 times better than Australia. After coming home I still think Australia is a damn hell hole with nothing good to do.

Definitely moving there =]

I'm going too : D I leave on the 26th - the last day of school for the term. It'd probably feel like the longest school day ever, ahaha.

But yeah, I'm going around Tokyo/Kyoto/Hiroshima. Any recommendations at all for shopping/attractions? It's with my school but not a homestay or anything, and the group I'm going with is pretty small so we're allowed to suggest places to go.

Very helpful information! Thank you. I remember hearing something about not blowing your nose in public, and I TOTALLY forgot about the four=death thing... a good reminder!

go to harajuku, probably the coolest place ive ever been
really good clothes shops, mad funky fashion
just be wary of the black guys on the street trying to sell you stuff
they take you through these backstreets to their shops
theyre alright i guess, i was just thinking they were gunna mug me and my mate

Well presuming you're not going outside of Honshu...

-Shibuya
Meiji shrine
The old imperial gardens
& last but not least go shopping, Harajuku in Shibuya's north

-Asakusa
kaminarimon
asakusa shrine

-Minato
Tokyo Tower

-Ginza
Look but don't buy (probably the most upmarket shopping district in all japan)

-Akihabara
Go shopping and check out all the elctronics stores

-Shinjuku
Shinkuku gardens
Shinjuku station
Japanese government building (diet)

-Ryogoku (in Sumida)
The edo tokyo museum
It's also a good chance to see some sumo as most of the stables are here

-Nara (this place is packed with stuff to see + its right near Kyoto and Osaka)
Todaiji temple (the place with the massive buddha)
Mount Koya (really good if you want to stay overnight in a buddhist temple

-Osaka
Osaka Castle

-Kyoto
Kyomizudera
Kinkakuji
Ginkakuji
Sanjusangendo
Gion
Kokodera
Fushimi Inari shrine
Kyoto Station (race your friends up the stairs)

-Himeji
Himeji Castle

-Nikko
Toshogu Temple

-Hiroshima
Memmorial Peace Park
also you could go to Itsukushima/Miyajima if your keen on a boat trip

Edit- Oh just a pointer, don't leave your chopsticks sticking upwards in your rice bowl (this is a practice usually reserved for funerals). lol...I made the mistake of getting up and going to the toilet in the middle of a crowded restaurant with my chopsticks up, needless to say i got a few odd looks as i sat back down.

Ah, thanks guys. Harajuku was a given for me aahha. It just so happens that we have a free day in Tokyo on a Sunday, so Harajuku will be first thing that day.

I really want to go to Tokyo Tower, but apparently it's heaps expensive? I guess we can just look at it...

For my trip, i was suppose to go up to Tokyo Tower at dusk (can you imagine the view), but we didn't end up going there. So we just stood outside it. It's very nice. I think you'll like it :D

Me too! In 2010! ♥

All you need to know not to offend is taught in Japanese. Just be polite, mature, and not too outgoing [not churlish though] and I bet you'll have a heck of a time =) and don't do anything silly like run off on your own; that's a given though...
