Lynn agrees that red is a rather dominant colour and until recent times it was "her" colour, and in fact, still sort of is, particularly in instances where Lynn feels the need to draw attention to herself.

However over the last 18 months Lynn has found a lot of pink stealing itself into her wardrobe and she is amused to now find that almost a third of it is pink - mainly pale pink and rose pink. Lynn wonders whether this is a subconscious change of heart or softening of spirit?!?!?!

Marcus says hello to everybody -Lynn and Alan and Katie if she is still around. :)

Today, in between domestic arguments, Marcus has been working on his book. It has got him thinking on his Major Work. Marcus wonders if Lynn actually enjoyed reading it; Marcus wonders what writing style Lynn enjoys in novels and short stories.

It is Pauline Bentley's "Fallen Angels", and takes place in the King Charles Vs Parliament era, which is where another of Lynn's favourite historical dramas is set. Lynn is always intrigued by the drama but it serves as a constant reminder of mankind's folly. Lynn does not feel the violence is the answer to everything, however time and time again, others choose to ignore past experiences. Grr.
Marcus also finds this period in history fascinating. He wonders if Lynn has heard of Nell Gwynn.

Lynn greets Marcus and asks if he read her last post, as Marcus' opinion on "devil colours" would be welcomed at this point :p

In response to Marcus' opening post, Lynn hopes that the domestic arguements have not taken too heavy a toll on Marcus (Lynn hates arguements and they always leave her cranky and irritable) and is impressed that Marcus s writing - Lynn has not written anything substantial fiction-wise since her Major Work. Lynn thinks that she is waiting for inspiration to strike. Come to think of it, Lynn's last source of inspiration was a vivid dream. Lynn has since had two others that might work well as stories. Lynn begins to ponder...

Lynn admits that Marcus' major work is not the sort of think Lynn would jump at reading. Lynn admits to being a fantasy and historical/romantic novel fan, even more of a fan if they are written well. Lynn once came across a literary mantra - "If a reader has to back-read to figure out what's happening, you've lost them" - and this is one of the stronger lines of thought that influences the way Lynn writes. Lynn is not an overly complex nor intelligent person, and seeks to read things she understands, and to write things that she understands. Lynn's major work was an outlier, Lynn had never written anything like it before, and probably never will again. Lynn is wondering what possessed her to write it, although she has a strong feeling EE1 was to blame.

However, Lynn does appreciate a well-written story. There is a slighty snobbish prig inside Lynn that delights in her slightly-more-than-average (but only slightly) understanding of english literature and in particular moods, Lynn gets very excited when she is able to link concepts and themes within texts. To apply "this reading" to Marcus' work, Lynn got very excited when she started to link the cycle of events (ie how power was held by one party, then the other in turn) to history of mankind. Lynn honestly didn't "get" a lot of the first half of the story but the second half presented a lot of interesting moments where Lynn could apply what was suggested in the story to real life.

Lynn enjoys entertaining stories but at other times she desires articles or stories that make the audience think, because as both a reader and author, she likes to entertain, but at the same time feels that it is extremely important to speak to your audience - to use it as a medium to express opinion.

YES! Lynn has heard of "Sweet Nellie" and dear Nell is one of Lynn's most favourite historical figures. Nell was brought up briefly in "Fallen Angels" and also in a documentary/short film on Charles II which was aired on ABC some time ago.

Lynn just cannot get over how Charles II let himself be walked all over by Louise de Keroaulle and is afire with rage that Henrietta was poisoned. Lynn DESPISES the Duke of Orleans!!!

Marcus understands where Lynn is coming from. Marcus writing is a form of self-expression, like poetry and music, and Marcus tends to use imagery for emotive impact alot. He doesn't like realism much at all, and many of his passages are essentially abstract ideas made concrete through natural imagery. Marcus quite liked the first half of his story. Being somewhat philosophical, Marcus greater world-view is often made manifest in his work. He admits that many people find this a turn off. Marcus has gotten used to it by now. He is, however, glad that Lynn could still enjoy the second half of the story. :)

Lynn appreciated Marcus' story for what it was (yes, including the first half!) but simply was not as personally engaged in the first half as in the second.

Lynn is familiar with personal enjoyment in writing as most of drafts in her EE2 "scrap heap" were the ones she had the most fun writing. Lynn wanted to stamp her feet in despair on numerous occasions when critics said that what she wrote was too "obtuse", even though Lynn would see the subtlety so clearly. Then again, Lynn wrote it.

Lynn will be back in a minute after she feeds her animals :)

Marcus doesn't know much on these other characters Lynn has mentioned, but Nell Gwynn remains also one of his favourite figures in history, "Pretty Witty Nell". She gave that bitch who was manipulating Charles literally a run for her money. Marcus can't for the life of him remember her name. But she said something along the lines of, "how much money do I need to give you to get out? Any whore in London would gladly take the money". And Nell replied, something like: "Well then I suggest you go find another whore, because this one's retired."

Aww. Lynn comforts Alan's friend by saying that uni is not the be-all end-all and that there is always another path.

Marcus: The "Catholic whore" was Louise de Keroaulle. However, you may also have been referring to de Villiers. Lynn cannot remember her first name either!! It may have been Catherine, and she then went on to be mistress to Charles II's eldest son, Earl of Mammoth? Lynn is glad that of all his paramours, Charles had ONE decent mistress, although Lynn wonders why Nell was not given title of "Royal Mistress" whilst Louise was. Lynn wonders whether Charles gave her official position whilst trying to get her to stop crying. *Lynn raises eyebrow*

EDIT: Lynn wonders whether Alan and Marcus have mysteriously disappeared, or whether they are having the problem that Lynn was having recently - connection redirected or something odd like that. "This page cannot be displayed..."

Katie also wishes Alan goodluck with his job! She shares Lynns love of red but finds she mainly wears it in winter with more pinky colours in summer. She has just added a pair of pink thongs, a pink beach skirt and a pinky/lilacy formal dress to her wardrobe.

Katie would also like to encourage everyone to keep writing and is thrilled Marcus is writing a book. She wonders what it is about? Or if its a secret? Katie often writes random poems when the mood takes her, or when she needs to get something out of her system. She confesses that she has bought her own personal reflection journal to stick drafts in and such.

Alan greets Justin, and tells him that "oddly, I wake up at very reasonable times during holidays. Translation: EARLY!"

Justin wakes up early whether he likes it or not.

In any case, he wonders if anyone found last night as horrible as he did when they were trying to get to sleep. Damn heat.

Hahahhah Alan's download reached 43%.

He slept quite soundly.

In any case, Alan recalls hvaing complain about the winter temperature quite often during Winter, and so, he is actually enjoying this heat, even though his wardrobe does not! ("I need more clothes")

Justin wishes he could enjoy pure humidity with no hint of a breeze. In any case, he slept restlessly and wishes it was pure heat rather than the crap we've been getting lately.

Hahaha Alan agrees. Yesterday was a bit of strange weather. But made for an interesting walk home, Alan thought.

Alan thinks even the weather now is a bit strange.

But at least it's SUMMER!!!

Justin enjoys Summer, but when there is not even a breath of a breeze, he begins to feel a bit blah.
