a fucken lot
i opened this thread with the intention of saying exactly this.

depends on what type of insurance. i didnt even bother getting comprehensive because its way too fucking expensive (i think the premium is about $2000 with aami, and the driver excess is massive as well). this is why you should get a shitbox car until your older, so you dont have to get comprehensive (unless you're rich, then by all means waste thousands of dollars per year). i dont have a particularly nice car (2003 magna) and i am not rich, so i got third party property with aami, and its about $400 a year premium. driver excess is pretty massive but only if i actually need to make a claim.

green slip with aami for an 18 year old was $630 for me :mad1:

you can get an online quote: http://www.aami.com.au/insurance-quotes/insurance-quote.aspx just fill in your details accurately. you can see for yourself how fucking expensive it is.

edit: for an 18 year old female who got their learner licence in 2008....

TTP: $425 per year, plus another $125 for fire and theft protection. standard excess = $550, driver excess= $900

green slip: $690.56 per year. funny how its gone up by about $30 since i got my greenslip in april.... fucking fucks.

When I was on reds, I was driving my mum's echo. It was under her name and I was listed as a driver. It costed about $1100 something for the comprehensive premium with $800 as the excess (I think). Now on my own 04 pulsar it costs $1680 - they said my 1.8L 90kW engine was 'powerful'.

There are two sides you can go with for insurance on Ps. You can put it under your parents name and list yourself as a driver, or you can put it under your name and pay in excess of $3000. However, if you take the latter option, you will be entitled to a No Claim Bonus discount which would see you paying roughly the same price as over 25s provided you don't crash within 3 years.

My CTP has been around $515 every year since I got my red P's (07) with my excess being $800. I had an accident in 08 just after I got my greens, the next year my CTP had actually come down around $10 but my excess is now $1500 because I made a claim (although its nearly been 2 years so should come down). I'm with GIO and my insurance is in my name also, not my parents. I'm the only listed driver.

Today is the first year my insurance has gone down.

It's $577 with fire and theft cover.

On the topic of greenslips I imagine most p plater premiums would've gone up at the start of this month given that theres now at fault driver cover of up to $5000.

It now costs more to register my bike than either of my parents' cars.
